And the biggest concern is that you let the brain swelling/bruising subside before any further physical activity. Doc said I shouldn't even visit the gym for a week.

This stuff is actually pretty common knowledge.

and now all your arguments makes sense.

(Sorry. I just couldn't resist. Really, sorry to hear about your condition and hope you can take the jibe in the spirit it was meant).

No worries. Both were bizarre accidents. The last one probably made me more sensitive to the players situation than most. It's scary how loopy or "dumb" you become with a concussion. After the last one I sat down to kill a sudoku puzzle, which would normally take 15 or 20 minutes, and after an hour of stairing at the page still mostly blank I knew concussions are serious.

Yes, because your doctor, who no doubt is as completely as well-versed in concussions as the doctors treating RGIII (who deal with concussions on a daily basis), was prescribing the only practical treatment known regardless of situation. Forget that YOU getting a concussion is not even remotely close to the same situation as a football player who gets paid millions to work. I am not saying he should HAVE to play but the fact that your prescribed treatment offers a threat to his livelihood makes the decision totally different. You being told not to go to the gym is an inconvenience. Him being told he can't play is his life.

I'd find some steps to get off the high horse you're riding.

I'd typically just ignore this kind of nonsense, but yours is one of the most ignorant posts I've ever read on this board. Having seen relatives deteriorate from dementia and eventually alzheimer's there is no amount of money and/or glory worth the loss of health.

A few years ago I'd have worried that team docs would push a player, but given the NFL's current situation with player health RG3 should be protected.

...and no, my opinion is he shouldn't play this week. If you don't like it please add me to your ignore list. In fact, please do so regardless. Thanks.

No I won't ignore your own ignorance. Instead of being so sure you're the smartest guy in the room you could try to understand something. It isn't your job on anyone else's job to decide what is right for a football player. You equating getting a concussion as anything functionally equivalent to someone like RGIII getting one is laughable. Look it comes down to risk aversion. To you and me getting a concussion ourselves presents a health risk similar to anyone else but along with that comes other indirect risks. You not being able to go to the gym is a small price to pay to offset the health risk. Bob not playing football isn't even close to the same thing. So don't compare them. Should the Drs/team/league look out for him? Absolutely. But part of the metrics they use in determining whether he can play involves his overall well-being, including the non-health related aspects.

And by the way, your opinion on whether he should play is completely useless and pointless. What exactly do you know to think anyone here on anywhere would care about such an opinion?

Isn't the whole point of a forum (of any kind) to present an opinion to a group of people who's opinion you could care less about?

I think you've made it very clear you have never had a loved one, or even know someone, who's suffered dementia and ultimately alzheimer's. Again, the causality link between concussions and later effects is at issue here, and maybe you haven't paid attention to the controversy surrounding the NFL.

Regardless, your certainty that money, fame and glory somehow makes a risk/reward ratio different shows extreme immaturity at least, and just plain shallowness and lack of character at worst. But you're young and values do change, just as we've observed countless retired players come out and say the damage to their body and brain wasn't worth the career.

Since this stuff is "common knowledge", then you would also know there are different levels and severity of concussions. Some might require a day to sit out, others weeks or even months. Now, for you to claim he should sit out would mean you have some sort of expertise on diagnosing concussions. I'm quite positive the coaching staff or the medical staff will no jeopardize this guy's future by allowing him to play before he's ready. I'm quite positive they have to go through tests to be allowed to play again after being diagnosed with a concussion.

RG3 never lost conciousness = lower severity. Romo went to sleep against Tampa and came back in the game. Our FO is doing good by RG3. He learned a lesson and got off lucky on that hit.

Two? Pffff! I've had at least 6 but it probably higher as I forget a lot of things these days.

In all seriousness I would err on the side of caution with RGIII, no need to rush him back.
