Lol, I really just over looked the reasoning behind Tampa or Carolina not offering him a contract.

i think it might just be, someone showed interest, and they figured they might as well take a look... maybe they didn't want to match our offer, or just didn't think he's what they need.

either way, it's win-win for us right now, cause we either get him at our price, or he goes somewhere else and we save the money without overpaying.

Speculating here but....I think it is one of 3 things...

1. They heard what the Skins offered and that combined with word Bryant Johnsons 1 year deal fwas only 2 mil + Darrell Jackson being cut, may have reduced there desire to match and walked away.....OR

2. They gave him a physical and felt his ankle may be a long term issue.

3. They don't want to be the first to up the ante only to be topped by another offer. (These teams held out to get a fair deal and don't want to drive his price up)

Anyone know if Hackett did a physical with either Tampa or Carolina?
If he did...and they didn't make an offer, I'd be worried.
Would they give him a physical during this type of visit? I didn't think about this. I wonder if these two teams (TB and Carolina) are now leaning more towards Jackson. I mean, Chucky likes veteran players, and well I dunno exactly if there's a reason why Carolina would take Jackson over Hackett. I think the lack of offers would hopefully mean that we get to sign him for the economical price that we want.

Very true, but how much would you consider overpaying him?

I'd say $2-3 million is a fair price for Hackett, right? That's not overpaying him. The Skins should be able to swing that. Maybe, the FO really likes a few of the WR prospects in the draft?

It seems like a fair price.

more than 4mill per year is overpaying. (ie > 5 year 20mill) is probably overpaying.

Well, looks like you were right about Carolina. His agent is currently working out the details of a contract with the Panthers. Doesn't necessarily mean he'll sign with them though. Could end up being nothing more than leverage.
