There are always ways to get around it. Put in D Young to be an H Back or FB, he can run block, pass block, and go out for a pass. Reed can be a TE or WR since he already splits out some. Since D jax is injured, it makes some sense to go about it that way. It just requires Jay to step out of his comfort zone of his base system. Most plays can be run with that personnel without tipping your hand. Can show power sets and do both pass or run, or passing sets and do both pass or run since Reed can line up anywhere.

every thing is a coaching mistake at some level. Asking tight ends to block (a fundamental football move) is not first and foremost on the coaches, especially when your 2 main blocking TE's go out with season ending injuries. Penalties are on the player first nearly every time.

But not all players have the same abilities. For example asking a TE who struggles in pass protection to pass protect or asking a blocking TE who isn't a good receiver to get open and catch 10+ times a game are coaching mistakes.

An old coaching mantra I believe in: you're either coaching it OR allowing it to happen. Its up to the coaches to put players in positions where they'll have success.

We can agree to disagree. I thought it was going to be an issue going into the game and that's how it turned out.

Disagree when multiple players go down. Maybe its a GM issue because he didn't bring in blocking/St TEs to replace blocking/St TEs.

Its also a GM issue I agree there. But, again for me going into a game knowing the TEs you have aren't great blockers then to put them in positions to make critical blocks, is a coaching mistake.

good - the first half up to the 2 min mark, solid D scheme and concept

bad - penalties killed us, another special teams TD, play calling didnt adapt for losing d jax. gruden sd we had 6 or 7 plays drawn up for d jax on PA ..... so d jax goes down and we dont stretch the field at all? you might as well have colt in there then.

ugly - D jax going down. idk if he would have still pulled his hammy or the stats but i would venture that guys who dont take any live snaps in PS are more injury prone in week 1 for things like hammys.

Getting BLOCKED. Our gunners were totally stuffed almost every time. I think Paul AND Hayward were the previous gunners.

You still call a deep ball from time to time, even though d jax went out.

desean going out really really hurt and gruden didnt seem prepared for it.

Ihenacho has been hurt nearly his entire time with the Redskins. What did we do to piss off the safety gods?

I would like to see some runs from a spread look as 30 mentioned. And stretching the field, even if we dont connect.

I would also like to give Reed and Carrier time before we reach a verdict. While both seem to have "receiver" type bodies, i dont think they did that bad.

Which is exactly what you want if you are going to run the spread/west coast/air coryell systems. It's going to take time to build depth. This isn't about coming out week 1 and shutting down every team we play. We're just trying to build a foundation so that in a year or two we have a full roster with quality NFL players. Seems like everyone forgets that. It's the same mentality everyone got on Snyder about. It doesn't happen overnight.

I think as Cousins settles in and if the OL continues to hold their own, we will see more of that. Coming in to week 1, those were huge question marks that you have to be careful with in game planning.
