You've heard of deals that help both teams involved? Well now you've seen a deal that sucks for both sides! There's no guarentee the Bears will accept. They may save us from our momentary lapse of reason.

I mean, philosophically, a defense with Okoye and Harris at the DTs would be so strong that it would blow my mind. But it would also be every bit as poor an allocation of their resources as taking Laron Landry would be for us (except DTs are more important than S obviously). The Bears are not a team without need. If they were to let Briggs walk, they'd have to make a move for a replacement. They don't have a good 4th LB on their roster. The 3rd guy, Hillenmeyer, is passable. This trade would leave them with Urlacher and no one at LB.

Re: NFL Network: Bears' Briggs, 31st Pick for Skins' 6th Pick?
[QUOTE=GTripp0012;291844Unless Quinn, Thomas, or Johnson do fall, the Bears really don't have a good pick at 6. It may not be worth it for them to make this deal, despite all the value they are getting for Briggs.[/QUOTE]
That's crazy talk. A #6 pick is never a bad thing especially in a very good draft and especially for a guy who many times has publicly said he won't play for Chicago again, unless it's the "I'll sit for 10 games and play 6" ploy. And the Bears won't be coughing up the monster salary he wants. If anything, the Bears have plenty of options with that pick. Briggs has wanted the spotlight on himself for a long time. He's on a defense surrounded by Pro-Bowlers...if he goes to the Redskins he'll get the chance to see he's everything he thinks he is, or a by-product of that defense up there. Don't get me wrong, he's a very good linebacker...but playing next to guys like Tommie Harris, Urlacher, etc doesn't hurt. If he wants out, fine....and if the Bears can get a #6 pick then that's a steal for them, even giving up the #31 also. |

Re: NFL Network: Bears' Briggs, 31st Pick for Skins' 6th Pick?
Don't do it! We FINALLY have a high draft pick again (we had to trade for Campbell) and we should hang onto it or at least trade down less than 5 spots to get another good pick.
Briggs doesn't sound like much of a team player...we don't need another Lavar personality who thinks he's bigger than the team. |

Hi,
I think we need to keep the pick and take LaRon Landry. With him and Sean Taylor are LB's are going to play better. With these two players you could put seven in the box and stop the run. |

This is the first time I've ever heard of safeties making linebackers better. Can you explain how that works? And seven in the box? We always use seven in the box. Hell, we can barely stop the run with 8 in the box, let alone 7.

Re: NFL Network: Bears' Briggs, 31st Pick for Skins' 6th Pick?
I don't know if you guys have ever used the Draft Value chart, but it is this chart that assigns points to each draft pick so GM's don't make another Mike Ditka mistake or Hershel Walker trade.
According to the Chart, this deal means you are giving away your 6th and the equivalent of a 16th pick for Briggs and the 31st pick. A first rounder at 16 is usually a starter and pretty cheap relatively speaking in terms of the salary cap. I don't think this deal makes sense for the Redskins.

Sorry, I wasn't clear enough. Your 6th pick is worth - according to the chart - a 16th and a 31st. So Briggs, in effect, is assigned the value of a first round #16 pick.

The Redskins pick is worth 1600 points The Bears pick is worth 600 points The 16th pick is worth 1000 points. This means that we're assuming that Briggs is worth the right to pick 16th overall in the draft.
