Since writing that post, I've realized how they've done it. By installing option bonuses in the second year of the contract, the Redskins were able to cleverly circumvent the 30% Rule. The option bonus doesn't count as salary, so they don't exceed the 30% inflation limit on base salaries.

So, to that guy's point, why would a player go for that? Trust. Dan Snyder sold them on the idea that while the bonus was technically an option bonus (for cap purposes), he had every intention of paying the player that money.

That's why Haynesworth contract says he'll get $32 million in the first 13 months. Notice they didn't say in the first year. He has a huge option bonus put in for 2010. I'm sure Danny has every intention of picking it up; it is clear the Redskins don't expect a salary cap in 2010.
Suppose that the labor situation gets resolved and there is a cap in 2010? Does the structure of this deal cast us directly to "Cap Hell", assuming we want to retain Haynesworth???

this was about the hall deal, which was 6 years not 7, unless you think haynesworth is going to be 32 in 6 years.

seriously, what's the deal?

Not necessarily, because at that point the 30% Rule would be gone, meaning there would be no restrictions on base salary inflation rates. Danny would just renegotiate that option bonus into a signing bonus, prorating it over the life of the contract.

Some might cry, "the economy, the economy!" Some think the economy will have a negative impact on the growth of the salary cap limit. But we saw this year that the cap came in at $127 million, $4 million more than the projected $123. While merchandise sales are suffering, TV demand and ticket demand remains high, fueling revenue growth. Recession, depression, whatever. The NFL business model remains strong. Just look how rabid we all are for the latest NFL info.

As long as the cap continues to go up, Danny would continue to restructure contracts in a capped environment. Cash over cap, that's the bottom line. As long as Danny has the money, he'll find a way.

The biggest concern with Schneed is he's not really a "locker room" guy. In addition, he's pretty much just a younger, less canadian version of CC. While losing him would have an effect, it might be addition by subtraction. So long as Canuck is around (I think we have him under contract until 2050) we should be fine. Besides, we have plenty of talent to step into any void created - GTripp, GMscud, That Guy, Zach Mills.

AND, even if he leaves, he'll be back a' la Smoot and Dockery.

I am the asshole in here, aren't I.

When I put my mind to it I can curtail that. I'll do better, nobody likes the asshole. So That Guy, sorry for coming at you in this thread. It's never good to squash discussion and I kinda did that.

Can't really argue with his on the field credentials. He's no TO, he just exudes confidence like any other baller. He's pushing 30 though. He may have to restructure if he wants to stick around. I know I had to last August.

Will we be seeing you doing sit-ups in your driveway anytime soon?

When asked to comment on Matty's three-typo post during the Redskins vs. Rams Game Thread, Schneed wiped away the tears behind his Oakley shades and replied "that's my teammate...that's my site administrator"

Re: Current Redskins Salary Cap Status - 2009

Now look, I think my original post is being misunderstood. Just b/c Schneed speaks his mind and isn't concerned with chemistry is not a reason to ditch him.

Rather, even though he's redundant and a jerk at times, we don't want a team of pantywaists and group huggers. So far he hasn't started his own "SchneedSite" and, while Schneed may love sum Schneed, he doesn't throw it in everyone's face (well, not too often). When it comes to crunching numbers, he's a real team player.

Smoot has always wanted this site to be about him and has some real leadership issues. So of course, he's gonna bring up the "he's my site-administrator" issue. SS is still upset about losing the Best Admin contest years ago and is just busy piling on the hate. EVEN AFTER SCHNEED GAVE HIM PROPS!!! It's wrong man, it's just wrong.

My ONLY point was that Schneed's a solid site guy but there is no need to go out on a limb to retain him with a franchise/transition tag.

Stop the hate, Smoot. Stop the hate.

I'll admit I was much humbler as TAFKAS, but the name SmootSmack demands arrogance!
