Carter is a liability in run defense as well. The only way that having two pass rushing DEs will work is if you have two behemoth run stuffing DTs. We don't. If we want to stop the run, we need run stuffers.

i don't konw about that kid just, cuz where our front four is a problem for any team when healthy. So call me crazy but i love that safety from LSU, its not hard to find a good d-end, but safety don't come a dime a doszen these days. We can always find a vet d-end. Anyways our safety S.Taylor needs a tendem so he can do his thing and not always have to feel like his back there alone and tryin bite on pump fake just to make plays. I really think he feel like if he don't make a play back there no one else is. What ya think

Adams won't play at 261 as a pro. He has the frame for more weight. Chances are he won't lose a step at 275.

We pay Daniels and Wynn a lot of money for not very much production, and they are only getting older. It is rare that a pass rusher with this much production is ever available. He is light, but with Freeney and Peppers this definatly seems to be a trend.

Carter started out very slowly. He really came into his own towards the end of the season though. He was not a liability against the run. He finished with 60 tackles and 6 sacks.

22 tackles and 3 sacks in the last 3 games.

I'm expecting him to be pro bowl level in 2007.

We have Griffin at DT and the new kid who looks good.

Old, Injured, and Over-Paid is a fair characterization of our D-Line. It desperately needs attention, and it cannot be completed in one offseason. Of all the various weaknesses this team has, D-Line is the greatest, and efforts should be made in this draft to address that need whether it be at DE or DT.

Was Carter the liability or was it Warrick Holdman?

I think Carter really stepped it up at the end of last season. He seemed to have gotten very comfortable and had several solid performances.

Malcom is right about Warrick friggin' Holdman with regard to run assistance, but Carter was still more of a liability than an asset in the run stopping department. Carter did step up his game as far as rushing the passer late in the season, but he got the nickname "Highway 99" for a reason. And I think Renaldo Wynn is gonna get cut...

I never understood why Wynn never got more of a luck at DT. He's not great at any position either position, but he could eat up space, I'd assume. However, none of that matters to me now, they should probably think about restructuring him rather than cutting him, IMO. I don't think they have enough depth to start cutting backups.

From the depth stadnpoint I agree FOR NOW. BUT, if we can bring in a guy like Ian Scott, draft one of the sparkling DL talents in the first round, and hope Golston and Montgomery continue to improve, Wynn could be expendable. It's also important to note that Wynn has been asked to restructure to a $1.2M non-guaranteed contract, and if he doesn't he'll probably be cut June 1st. Cutting him would save us $2.5M!!

Espec. a guy like Wynn, who is a big locker room guy too I'd like to keep around. I didnt think Wynn was too bad in his role last year as a backup, he was servicable as a backup, but we cant be paying him what we are for that role.

adams has room for 15-25 more pounds, which, if he's willing to hit the weight room hard, could make him a much more complete player.

I think there's a lot of upside with this guy. But one thing is clear: whether we sign Gaines Adams or Wednesday Addams, we have to figure out who we are on offense -- i.e., a Gibbs "grind 'em" team or a Saunders "mix-it-up" team. Our D was on the field way, way too much last year, and even the best talent will wilt eventually if you cannot sustain drives on offense. And without a beter offensive identity, it is unclear that we will do that.

In other words, players aside, the coaching needs to be better (never thought I'd say that of a Gibbs team).
