Portis, Betts and Rock are the top 3. That's all we really need to know.

Hey isn't Rock about done with his contract in Washington? Wouldn't this be his last season?

If so, I could see him getting snatched up by another team next year, a la Robert Royal and Dockery.

I think you're right. If he makes the team this year, which I expect him to, I expect him to get an extension.

Re: Derrick Blaylock Placed on Injured Reserve

This could come back to bite us pretty seriously if Portis misses a few weeks here and there due to his knee flaring up. While Betts and Cartwright are both very good RBs, the combination of minor injuries plus fatigue could put us in situations where we line up a less than ideal player in the backfield in a crucial situation.

Better Blaylock to IR than Portis or Betts, but our depth is not that good at RB relative to the rest of the league.

Ideally this won't be an issue, but you never know.

He signed an extention last (or was in this?) offseason. It was 4 years at the time of the deal so hes locked up at least through 2009.

Re: Derrick Blaylock Placed on Injured Reserve

Gibbs has kept 4 rbs every year so far, so Mason has a pretty decent shot.

Well, a shame for Derrick, but hopefully my boy Mason makes the team.

Not exactly. Koz was more of an H-back in Gibbs offense. So occasionally he actually would line up in the backfield as a fullback or on the line of scrimmage.

I didn't even realize they re-signed Dee Brown. He could have the advantage with his experience

Re: Derrick Blaylock Placed on Injured Reserve

I can see it unfold as such:

RB: Portis, Betts, Cartwright, Brown
FB: Sellars, Beasley
PS: Mason

I dont see them dropping Mason outright...he's done ok in the preseason, and would give us the depth in case one of the top 2 dogs go down.

Funny that they would put him on IR, wouldn't they just release him? I guess they thought enough of him not to.

Re: Derrick Blaylock Placed on Injured Reserve

I would put Mason on the team over Dee Brown. Mason is young and based on what we've seen has potential and could be a good NFL back someday. If Portis and Betts went down I'd love to see Mason in there as the main back. I'd put him in over Cartwright simply because Cartwright is the main return guy and also a good special teamer. Cartwright would take the backup carries though lol.

Re: Derrick Blaylock Placed on Injured Reserve

Why are people worried about the 4th tailback? Blaylock was going to be in street clothes in week one.

Worry about something relevant like whether Samuels and Kendall will click early on.
