Not necessarily.

You have three games coming up. @ New York Jets, PHILADELPHIA, and @ Dallas.

If I told you that as a fan, you could assign two wins and one loss to those three games (a reasonable expectation), which game would you assign the loss to?

Thought so.

Now, in reality it doesn't work like that, but all I'm saying is road losses outside of conference only help you get tiebreakers. To prevent the season from slipping away, we need to beat our division opponents.

Re: Can we beat the Jets?

can we beat the Jets?? absolutely. Can we lose to the Jets?? absolutely. It depends on the mind set of this team. Joe Gibbs is so laid back and non confrontational so someone else is going to have to get these guys fired up and ready to know someones head off. Buges maybe, Williams will have the D ready to rumble, no doubt. I hope this team comes out with the mentality to strike and strike quickly. We need to take the life out of them quick. Switching to a new QB that every one in Jets land loves will give them and extra burst and a little spark. I would love to see GW go after him, blitzing like crazy but I just dont see that happening. He hasn't done it all year when we all thought he would. Nothing makes me think he will this week. With the secondary so banged up, I would tend to send a lot more pressure so the corners are not forced to cover for 5 seconds. I feel if your secondary (corners) are banged up or not that good, you mask that by bringing a lot of pressure in the QB's face. Force him to make quick decisions. But thats my opinion, that is why I work for a software company, and not an NFL team.

Re: Can we beat the Jets?

I don't know if we can or not. As I've said in other posts...Yes, we are definitely hindered by the injuries the team has suffered, and that didn't get any better this past weekend. However, face it, we just aren't anything more than an average football team right now, and that is only thanks to our defense. If our defense wasn't as good as it has been so far, we wouldn't even be considered average. We'd probably be 1-7 just like the Jets. The offense just stinks.

All that being said, if we beat the Jets..."IF"... then we'll be two back of Dallas and we still play them twice. Playoffs are a possibility since we are in the weak NFC, but if you think this team would last more than a week in the post season, I want some of what you are smoking.

We can beat the Jets just as easily as we can lose to them. As long as we bounce back mentally from that beat down in NE I think we will be just fine. The Jets are benching Chad Pennington too this week I believe.

Re: Can we beat the Jets?

The last defense Kellen Clemens faced as a starter was Baltimore, for which he had the Jets in position to win until a last second INT deep in Ravens' territory. Skins defense is now without one of it's starters in the secondary, and injuries among the LBs. Belicheck showed the rest of the NFL what the Lions, Cardinals and Packers couldn't do...beat G-Dub's deep zone.

As much confidence as I have in the Skins to win, this is one of those games that can bite right square in the ass if the team isn't careful. G-Dub is going to have to rattle Clemens' cage a bit, while focusing on short and intermediate passing. I think Taylor and Landry can play centerfield all day, with Coles nursing a calf injury. Thomas Jones is having a decent year on the ground, but hasn't found paydirt yet.

The Skins offense is going to have to overcome a shaky line and blow open holes for Portis and Betts to run through. Sellers needs the ball more, and Campbell is going to have to find Moss and ARE deep a few times.

I'm very fearful of this game. This is a make or break game for the Skins, even though a loss puts them at 4-4, it's a long uphill battle the rest of the way. Momentum from this game will have to carry them through Philly, Dallas, Tampa and into Buffalo.

No predictions as of yet, but I have a bad feeling this game is going to be ugly.

I think it is going to be ugly too, but for the Jets. The young and inexperienced QB is on a date with pain and misery this Sunday. Did he pick the wrong time to play an angry Redskins D or what?

I think the defense will come out firing on all cylinders and dominate this game after that embarrassment up in NE.

It will also be nice to watch the game with Moss and Coles playing for two teams as both receivers played for both teams at some point. I really think that Coles is very underrated player. I remember the game when he played for the Skins against Dallas and had a dislocated finger but kept playing and catching. Whatever happened to players like that, ones who actually want to play?

I Agree BigD;

I think one of Campbell's strengths is that he comes back from adversity. We've seen it after he's thrown interceptions, and now we will see what he can do after a disheartening loss.

I wouldn't want to have ST or London looking to avenge personal demons next week if I was on the other side of the line.

IMHO

Re: Can we beat the Jets?

Of course the season isn't over with a loss against the Jets, but if we can't beat a 1-7 team the outlook on the much tougher games down the road won't be that great. This is a game we should win, and need to win to keep pace. We need to handle our business against the Jets and start to get this offense back on track.

Re: Can we beat the Jets?

Kellen Clemens at QB scares me a lot more than Chad Pennington. If the Skins don't have enough to win this game, then they don't deserve to go to the postseason. Good teams that consider themselves contenders beat up on bad teams like the Jets. For once, if we get a two TD lead, can Gibbs let Saunders keep his foot on the accelerator? Just for once.

Surely you're not talking about running up the score...

Actually, I was laughing while I typed that. Run up the score....how 'bout score.

Re: Can we beat the Jets?

Our defense is about to run in to some major problems.

We've been excellent against slot receivers and 2nd receivers this year. Well, that was Carlos more times than not.

Lets say Smoot comes in and plays the pass with no dropoff? Who covers the slot? Prioleau? We can't continue to be no. 1 against slot receivers like that.

We've been one of the best rushing D's in the league thus far. But NE figured out how to beat us, put the slot receiver on Fletcher and attack Andre Carter to get outside.

Well, guess which CB that play would go at?

Outside runs are about to get real messy for this team, and Landry is going to see a lot more time in the box. That means that Taylor will get tested a lot and have a lot more ground to cover.

I don't think we have an elite defense anymore without Carlos Rogers. Still capable, yes. But if teams start to attack this D like they did last year's D, they will find some success.

Here's the good news: The offense is at it's season low point. It's only going to get healthier and better from here on out. Campbell is due to go off on someone.

But my crystal ball looks iffy for this game.

Re: Can we beat the Jets?

The win over the Jets will compare to the Giants win over Miami. Absolutely lopsided on paper, but Gibbs has this team unprepared after half-time for the last three weeks. I don't see any anger or key players voicing their opinion about the dilemmas' with this team. I never thought I would see a team with so much talent and money at it's expense barely able to score 21 points per game. It's a shame and Joe Gibbs doesn't have the answer. His accountability as a coach is really on trial.
