Look towards the future and hire either Spags or Meeks, they're both younger than Fossil and show potential.

I think Spags can be a good HC, but I worry about all the assistants already being in place. Fassel has signed off on most in one way or another, but who's to say Spags won't butt heads with them (especially Blache)?

Re: ESPN reports Mariucci is out of the running for the HC job in Washington.
The thing that makes most anti-Fassel fans pissed, is why didn't Dan Snyder hire him a few weeks ago instead of acting like these other guys had a chance when he had already made up his mind. If he was thinking that fans needed to cool off on his choice, boy was he wrong. I'm more pissed now than 2 weeks ago. I hope he proves me wrong and hires Meeks or Spags.

Among the names I've heard so far, Mariucci was my favorite. I'd be fine with Fassel.
But Spagnuolo -- he's the flavor of the week. Just like Norv without Aikman, Emmitt and Irvin, Spags will be nothing without Strahan, Umenyiora, and Tuck. |

It would be crazy if Meeks came out and won the job. Talk about a sleeper!

Re: ESPN reports Mariucci is out of the running for the HC job in Washington.
Whatever! I am sick of all this. When Mooch was first brought up I was excited about the prospect, but as we've waited I have lost interest in him anyways. PEACE!!!
Isn't it funny how we heard all during the first couple weeks: "we want this to be a speedy process / A decision should be made by..." and now its been dragged out. Well, although Im peeved by all this waiting, I am glad DS took his time. On the other hand, all this time has produced little. I wasn't enthralled with any of our candidates after Williams to be honest, and at this point I just want it to be over. I guess Im more excited about Spags, but Fassel is probably the better fit (blah). In the end, who really could have followed Gibbs? I guess Williams, but lets pretend he was never even an option. What outside coach could we really have gotten behind entirely? I just hope whomever it is will prove to be worthy of succeeding Gibbs. |

Nothing wrong with taking your time and interviewing everyone before pulling the trigger. I don't see why everyone is so aggro about it. The Redskins will have a coach when they have a coach. That's about the long and short of it. Whoever it turns out to be, there will be pressure on them from the get-go and then there will be thousands of whiny threads second guessing WHOEVER Snyder hires. Vicious friggin' circle and quite tiresome.

I honestly understand the clamoring of GW because of loyalty, but I really don't think Fassel would be a bad fit. He really impressed Snyder in '04 and I would rather have a coach the owner would be willing to trust and make his own decisions instead of a coach that Danny would be constantly interfering with in decisions.

Re: ESPN reports Mariucci is out of the running for the HC job in Washington.
I like Spagnuolo and I really don't mind Fassel either. I'll admit that I really don't know much about Meeks other than he was with the Redskins awhile back. At this point, I don't see any one of those three candidates being the wrong choice, as long as all three are agreeable on the current coaching staff being already set in place.
I would probably say that overall, Fassel would be the best choice simply because he can help Zorn out with the offense. Blache will have everything in hand with the defense, so it might not work to have a head coach who was a former defensive coordinator. Anyways, like the rest of you, I'm just ready for the search to be over and for us to look toward the future. Whoever our next head coach is going to be, I'll back them.

Re: ESPN reports Mariucci is out of the running for the HC job in Washington.
DS said he wanted to wait until after the SP before deciding on the HC position. What about he makes a move for Coughlin. I understand that the Giants are in talks with him about an improved contract but after all their ‘will we sack him or not’ at the end of last year and even the beginning of this season he might be open to an offer. What if Snyder came in with a sack of cash to persuade him. With all the Coaching Assistances in place we are going to need a HC that can knock heads together and show leadership and who knows the NFCE.

Re: ESPN reports Mariucci is out of the running for the HC job in Washington.
Back in '04 -- before Gibbs was hired -- I was a big fan of bringing in Coughlin to coach. For some reason, his name was never mentioned on the list of candidates. Knowing the trouble he went through in NY, he wouldn't have lasted 5 minutes under Lil' Danny.
Now, there's NO WAY the Giants let him loose. |

Re: ESPN reports Mariucci is out of the running for the HC job in Washington.
Funny how when the first candidates were mentioned I liked Fassel. I would prefer someone who has had HC experience. Then Mariucci's name came up. I figured that he would be a lock due to him being from the WC offensive tree and would help Zorn with all the changes on offense.
Last night I was looking up the "coaching trees" and it took me to Wiki and I found that (If it has not been altered.) there were six coach's under Bill Walsh. Holmgren, Hackett, Wyche, Seifert, Green and none other then FASSEL. He was a teacher to John Fox his only protege who has not been too bad in the past. Having said that which is the best candidate? Either Fassel will bring the orginal WC with him and add it to what Zorn has or Zorn will teach Fassel something, maybe spring board Fassel's career again. lol. Perhaps this is DS plan...wear out the fans until they simply say just pick someone already. I'm not sure if Meeks would be a good candidate at this point. I revert back to is Meeks Defensive style similar to Blache's. If not then perhaps he is not the best choice. Then I look at Spag. His Defensive style does not look remotely close to Blache's. Can they co-exist? is there some way they can blend the two? A front four that is a monster at rushing the QB and yet have maybe an extra man perhaps a safety or cornerback in the box to not only add speed at rushing but able to meneuver through the holes undetected to sack the QB. Who knows. It would be nice to have a HC who's not over the hill. lol. I'm not sure who the best answer is but I heard on the radio that DS is still consulting JG in regards to the HC. |
