Hey i did not say its ok to overpay for anyone. but assuming that we will with cerrato running things all i am saying is that allen would have the biggest impact. believe i rather draft a person at any position. we have plenty of talent and if it was up to me i wouldnt sign any big name guys and just have a good draft. building through the draft is key.

Funny how when we overpay for certain guys and they work out that DS and the FO don't get credit for that.

Even in this scenario, if you overpay for someone who "works out" -- you've still OVERPAID for him.

Funny how Lil' Danny still has his rabid defenders with that sparkling 50-62 record.

If you're going to keep pulling that 50-62 argument out every other week you should at least get the numbers right

How are those numbers wrong?

1999 -- Casserly's team, I don't count that
2000 -- 8-8
2001 -- Marty's year, not counting that either
2002 -- 7-9
2003 -- 5-11
2004 -- 6-10
2005 -- 10-6
2006 -- 5-11
2007 -- 9-7

Grand total = 50-62

I am too, but the key needs to be "young", and I'd prefer we get them in the draft. I will pass on Jared Allen. Remember Dana Stubblefield? He was a flat out stud for SF before we got him, then he turned into a flat out dud. These players are great in their respective systems, that does not mean that will translate to success in our system. For once I'd like to see us go get a great DT / DE in the draft...thinking Manley / Mann type players.

It's a very odd comparison, Stubblefield to Jared Allen. I'd like to hear why you think there's any commonality there, besides the fact that they'd both be paid big money to play D Line?

I think Jared Allen is a product of his system, just like Stubblefield was. The man is talented, no doubt about it, but why do we always think success will follow players no matter what team or philosophy they go to? I use Stubblefield as the example cause he's really the last massive name we signed on the DL. Carter wasn't that big of a name at all, and he took a while to learn or system and be effective. You might be able to pull Griffin out, but he has not been anything extra special, he's just been solid overall. I'm not trying to say "Stubblefield sucked, therefore Allen will suck", all I'm saying is, big name DL players don't always translate into big time players for us.

Re: Lets overpay for Jared Allen

we need shaun rogers. clog up the middle and let our athletes on the outside take care of business. he was the biggest man ive ever seen in person at the lions/skins which in fact we whipped their ass.

rogers or allen would be great
