You can't be mad at Doughty on the 4th and 10 play.
Andre Johnson wins that jumpball matchup against any DB in the league.
My question is why didn't Buchanon stay with Andre?
It kinda negates the purpose of a double team if the other DB drops coverage.

Now they have to go back and re-examine the coverage and what the HECK was Buchanon thinking!
I can think of one DB who wins that jump ball. Go to 2:25 of the following:

That was a jump ball against a young Randy Moss!!!

for those of you that see this and remember the reel of Sean Taylor highlights that he provided, look at each play, not a single one of those shots were in the 21 jersey.. that's rookie year highlights only

I still tear up every time

What is scary is that he was only getting better... he was headed for an unbeliveable year in 07 before he got hurt. I still go back and watch the video they showed at fed-ex the sunday following, and cry. I can't watch anything with that young man and not feel somewhat empty.

I wonder if I ever will be... or if I will ever watch a game again and not think what if st was still here...... then I just have to remember it was God's plan not mine.

My fiance had a coffee cup made for me for christmas last year.. half of it was me in my race car on the track and the other side was ST in the clouds wearing his Skins uni with his back turned and a face shot of him from when he was a rookie.. it says gone but never forgotten "an angel amoung us". She gave it to me at our Christmas party and I had to leave the room, because I had to cry and I didnt want to do it in front of all our friends...

Reed Doughty and Horton are backups for a reason. I think Moore being more athletic and more physical will make a difference.

Perfectly stated.
Doughty and Horton have physical shortcomings that makes them good situational players and special team greats. But they are not every down/every situation type safety's.
Kareem Moore shows promise with his athleticism. We have not seen enough of him to say of he will be "the answer", but he is closer to the answer than Doughty and Horton are showing. Will Moore stay healthy?
Lets see how Kareem does this year.
DB's will get beat from time to time. It is not always their fault (scheme, mis-communication, lack of pass rush). To be fiar we are blitzing a ton and putting a lot of pressure on our DB's.
I did not like the all out blitz on the critical 3rd and 15 that they converted. I think we can blitz one or two and still cover on that play. All out blitz was not necessary.

Also perfectly stated, that's what I've saying. All that blitzing will come back to haunt you. What's the best way to beat a blitz? A short pass up the middle or a screen. What did the Texans do? Just that, plus play action that the defense kept biting on over and over.

The 50 yard screen pass / run by Arian Foster was just killer. I love the aggressive attitude, but I agree that we can't leave the DBs out on an island so often.

We got to start to mix it up more. Live by the sword die by the sword.
Haslett needs to be more balanced and more patient. We do not need to blitz and sack the QB on every pass play. Predictable!
I also thought or hoped we would mix in some or a minuscule amount of 4-3 defense. I am surprised we do not run any 4-3, even if it is a little bit. Just to confuse the shit out of them.

Re: Suspect Safety Play

Well, this is obvious. Reed has a good heart and is a nice guy, but he just does not have the talent. It's really not the AJ play on the 4th down--that's one that AJ is going to make. He's a monster. And the throw was amazing--watch it again if you can stomach it.

We need to upgrade. Moore may be the guy, but we have NO idea at this point until he plays a few games. And obviously, this is part of the depth problem that Vinny kindly left us with. We are being exposed when our starters go down. That's gonna take years to fix, I'm afraid.

And as scowan says, man, if that's #21 back there, ya gotta believe we get a different ending. RIP, Sean. We miss you, man.

Re: Suspect Safety Play

Zones have natural soft spots and right now we're getting picked apart, granted by good QBs and WRs. Haslett has been super aggressive with the front 7 and might need to start dialing that back a bit.
