FA first. Then assess the remaining positions of need. Then draft the BPA at a position not addressed in FA. But what do I know?
I agree with you about getting crazy trading back. However, there seems to be potential to move back (not far) for good reward at the top of round 2 with the way the draft is spread out now.

For example, this is what happened with the 2nd pick in the second round last year:

No. 34: San Francisco → Tennessee (D). San Francisco traded this selection to Tennessee in exchange for Tennessee's second- (40th) and seventh- (216th) round selections in the 2013 draft, along with Tennessee's third-round selection in the 2014 draft

I'm always a fan of BPA over drafting for need. And since we have so many needs there's probably a good chance that the BPA will fill a need for us anyways. The only spots where I don't see us needing an upgrade are qb and rb. Some would say TE but I feel like Jordan Reed is our only guaranteed player to return and with his concussion history I don't want to have to rely solely on him. Every other position needs help.

I agree, but the only thing I don't want us taking is a WR. It's just such a damn crap-shoot with them (and SO many don't work out) that I'd hate to take what's considered a great pick just to find out they bust. I'd rather go with a DT or OL just because most, not all, have less likelihood of busting.

Yeah, I don't want us taking a WR with our first pick either. OL first, then either DL or ILB. WR can wait until the 4th round, where L'Daimian Washington will hopefully still be available.

Firm believer that you build from the trenches out. Doesn't have to be with this pick, but I want to see a lot of dollars invested in the offensive and defensive lines this offseason.

Exactly. When was the last time we picked an offensive lineman early? Oh, that's right, our Pro Bowler Trent Williams. Jarvis Jenkins in the second, while not elite, has been solid for us. Also, like mooby says, as long as we hit, we should be able to pick any BPA and it'll be an improvement.

Re: 34th Overall Pick

The OL definitely needs revamping. When Allen said they were going to redefine some of the characteristics they look for in players I immediately thought of the OL. I can't wait to get away from this small OL and back to a group that can play power football and not get shoved back into the QB so easily.

Totally agree . . . No more ZBS, and maybe Griffin will last a few seasons.

Re: 34th Overall Pick

I'm with those who say that we use the #34 pick on the player that brings the greatest impact, whether they be at OL, ILB, S, CB...gawd we have many needs.

I agree with this. Between Antonio Richardson, Xavier Su'a-Filo, Cedric Ogbuehi, and La'el Collins, we could find some hogs that would start immediately.

Amen. We've seen Morris can flourish no matter what's going on around him. Honestly, a power running scheme might even make him MORE awesome if that's even possible. I think we should also wait on an ILB in the draft unless a great one falls into our lap. We DO still have Keenan Robinson, albeit he is oft-injured.

Re: 34th Overall Pick

I'm thinking about the last time we had a REALLY great line. Chris Samuels, John Jansen pre-injuries, and that was kind of it. I know you can't have Pro Bowlers at every position, but I feel like year-to-year, we always have at least ONE goat on both sides of the ball. Wilson on D and Polumbus on O (Chester a close second). Remember the Warrick Holdman days? Maybe the worst linebacker who started for us in the past 10+ years.

2005 was the last time I can say that our line was very good.

Samuels, Dockery, Rabach (before he sucked), Thomas (before he broke his leg against Dallas), and Jansen

Shameless self-promotion. It is what it is.
