Re: A New Day: Scot McCloughan GM Thread Part 2
McCloughan said that he will go through FA and the draft with the current staff and this will be his evaluation time for them. He said he will make decisions after that whether new people need to be brought in.

Like you, I think the whole FO thing is gonna go to poop in the fall. But if McC can reform our scouting and perhaps clear out some dead wood, that could be an enduring contribution of his.

Jason Reid would like to know if he has gotten over his drinking problem though. LOL.

Re: A New Day: Scot McCloughan GM Thread Part 2
I've followed Scot here in SF and Seattle and have always been jealous of the picks he made for those team while we got some good (mostly average talent). The 49ers have had some great drafts since 2005 (when Scot Joined) to the present day with Baalke.
The question is: Does Baalke's success come due to the scouting team assembled by Scot or is Trent Baalke just as talented? I say both. Yes, Scot also whiffed on some picks like passing on Aaron Rogers and going with Alex Smith instead. Scot to me is a real savvy GM, he assembled great talent on 2 teams and yes he had some personal issues (drinking) which were never revealed until he left Seattle. I wasn't aware that he had been hanging out in a farm in Seattle chilling, till I read the ESPN article and was like, why don't the Skins go after him. The rest is history and we got lucky as hell that the Raiders wanted to be the Raiders and not offer him full control and get rid of McKenzie.

Wouldn't really say he wiffed on drafting Alex Smith. He did have a a year when he made the pro bowl and led his team to the playoffs, and he still has a starting QB role in the NFL. And even if he wiffed there, he made it up with his second selection, F Gore, probably San Frans best franchise RB. In comparison the Skins really show why this franchise is where it is in their first two picks that year. Two first round selections and neither of those players lasted past their initial rookie deals, Carlos Rogers and J Camp. Both of which are on NFL rosters at positions the Redskins are in need of. Hopefully we are beyond trading away or not re-signing our drafted talent.

And we all know Snyder is not one to be patient, but I think he's going to be very patient with Scot McCloughan. He knows he's hit a goldmine with this guy. He's proven, quite recently, how to build championship teams. We're not just talking teams that can make the wild card round on a consistent basis, we're talking about championship teams. Everybody eventually "gets it" at some point or another, and Snyder has gotten it. I know there's going to be guys who will not believe it until it's proven on the field - and that's fine. But again, I'm 100% on board with Scot McCloughan, and I think he's going truly going to turn this organization around.

Re: A New Day: Scot McCloughan GM Thread Part 2
AJ Smith-I expect him gone. I think it was going to be all or nothing for him. Either he comes here and is the man officially, or he's just not involved. He was too influential this past year + to just suddenly take a backseat in my opinion. That said, I wouldn't mind if we could keep him around
Scott Campbell-You can't keep him around. You just can't. You can't preach change in the front office and keep the one constant of the past 14 years here. Good guy, probably not totally at fault but he needs to go Doug Williams-Not sure about this one. Ultimately, he's harmless whether he stays or goes As for the scouts, I'm sure there will be changes but I don't know what or the extent of it

Somebody said it earlier.......undoubtedly he has compiled much info regarding the upcoming draft. It should be no stretch to apply it to this team....
