Thats true he has not done much here, but he cant be the whole return team also, our special teams have far ben steller as a whole since he has ben here. It takes all 11 guys to get it done if one fails the whole squad(SP) fails...

On Mike and Mike earlier this week Joe Gibbs was on and he specifically said the later picks were to help Danny (Smith) and the special teams

Re: Special Teams

I'm glad he addressed that. If I remember correctly, we didn't do so well on kick and punt coverage.

Re: Special Teams

I think our special teams will be much stronger. Singing Pruliou(sp) from Buffalo. Since the off season several quiet moves plus the draft. I am not sure on Morton. How much cap relief will we get if we let him go? Is he worth another season in that reguard if he is under contract. I do not like Jeff Chandler . I hope Hall returns to form in camp this year.

Re: Special Teams

I dont think that Morton will be gone, I think that Morton and Brown will handle all return duties. I may be wrong but doesnt Gibbs like to do reverse's on kickoff return? I remember when we had D. Howard Gibbs did that a couple of time with him and Mitchell...

No way, Morton is history. I bet it'll be Antonio Brown and James Thrash taking over the return duties. You know Gibbs loves Thrash.

Re: Special Teams

Cutting Morton now would hurt our 2005 salary cap. He is currently on our 2005 salary cap for $1.04 Million. Cutting him now would make his cap hit $1.5 Million, taking away $0.46 Million of our precious cap room, of which we have about $2 million (and we still need to deal with Santana Moss, Rod Gardner, and sign our rookies). Not gonna happen.

Cutting Morton after June 1 would be pretty smart though. His current '05 cap figure would go from $1.04 million, to $0.5 million, giving us an extra $0.54 million in room to play with. That would come in handy for dealing with the issues that face us. If we did this, we'd carry $1.0 million in dead cap money in 2006. But that is less than his scheduled $2.3 million 2006 figure.

I'd say there's a good chance we'll axe him after June 1.

Why Rod Gardner? Isnt he in his last year of his contract?

Yes he is. I just meant that they still have to decide what they're going to do with him. I think they were counting on trading him to get the $1.5 million in cap room it would save, but since they weren't able to, now they have only about $2 million to sign Moss and the rookies. I wouldn't rule out Gardner getting axed outright, because they might need the cap room that bad.

Re: Special Teams

Especially if there are some promising rookies that need to get signed.
