Re: Cousins 3.0, he's going to sign the franchise tag

Should have gone with the San Fran trade and get the extra first round pic. At #2 you could get the best defensive linemen, safety, corner, linebacker in the draft and get your new shiny QB at 17 or vice versa. Only good thing is that if Kirk's stats go to hell, the team can sign him cheaper, and San Fran might not want him after all.

If we force Kirk to play in 2017, we wont get jack for him in 2018... I still hope we sign him but I just dont think KC wants to stay

Per Michael silver of NFLN
"From what I've heard, I wouldn't rule out the jets contacting Washington for cousins."

I would rather him go to SF, get a better pick but whatever at this point.

Just trade him. We never have a full agreeance on anything really. But I think we have just about a 100% consensus that he doesn't want to be here. Do we want the leader of the team going thru the motions? Someone said they'd rather go 6-10 with Colt than have the same time performance as we did this year with Kirk, I agree.

Draft the QB from Pittsburgh in the 2nd round. We have 10 picks, we can use 1 on a qb.

Should have used the transition tag before this all went down. Now Cousins either plays on a one year (and see ya later) or he gets traded for peanuts. Meanwhile, there's a good chance the Patriots are going to trade Garoppolo to the Browns for a first. This is a monumental screwup of the tallest order.

Re: Cousins 3.0, he's going to sign the franchise tag

He may have asked for a trade but there still is plenty of opportunity to sign him.
If he's going to sign his tender then maybe there has been positive dialogue.
If not then we have a whole year to prepare for acquiring a new quarterback, I really dont care if Cousins is a lame duck or not and I'm not going to spend a whole year gnashing my teeth over it.
No where to go but up......

Re: Cousins 3.0, he's going to sign the franchise tag

Fact is a lame duck qb has a lot to play for. Unless he wants to be out of football and retire with 44M in the bank. Yes he may worry about his health more, but otherwise he would face even more pressure than this year. Last year you figure the pressure was maybe a 5M per year difference - he stinks he gets 19/year and says Yay, he lights it up, wins a SB and walks away with 24M/yr. Next year, given the slide in low tier qbs, if he stinks it up, or gets hurt, he base would probably stay around 18-19, but his pressure to light it up, could net him 30-32M/yr. He would in effect be creating a huge pressure on himself of his own making.

Re: Cousins 3.0, he's going to sign the franchise tag

suppose he plays shaky next year ( we lost Djax ,Garcon) and has a fall off in his play..NOW What will everybody say...I can tell you this same forum will be saying ..looks like somebody knew this about Kirk.glad we did not sign him long term.. Look guys Kirk is good but its not like he is a true franchise guy..(he is the best we have had..but who have we had??) yea yea..he broke a lot of records but any good modern day QB will break records in this pass happy league (they call PI on every other play)..I like kirk but he has some issues that i believe will hurt him ..He needs to grow up a little and not be so thin skinned(no pun)..it seems his ego gets bruised really easy..remember when he would throw a pick and go in the tank..he did improve on that but he is showing the same traits in this whole contract deal..Its like I don't want to play for you guys because you did me wrong by paying me 44 million dollars..(remember he was passed over by a lot of teams in the draft and had he gone to the wrong team things could have been much worse for him..he seems ungrateful to me. We need a LEADER LONG TERM at the QB position ..not somebody showcasing for another team ..so unless he is on board and agrees to a contract that is fair ..say 100-120 million 5 year with incentives then we need to trade him asap for the most we can get. Also think about this IF he truly Thinks he is all that then why with a huge shortage of QB's in league there is not a lot of teams wanting him..Bears,Jets,49ers,browns,texans,bills,broncos all need help and 49ers are the only team showing real interest..you would think the texans or broncos would be calling but it seems they would rather have Tony Romo than Cousins..Im telling you guys Cousins aint all that and smart folks around league know this. The lack of interest in those teams going after him is very telling..

Mike McCartney ✔ @MikeMcCartney7
QB @KirkCousins8 has signed his Franchise contract
11:19 AM - 10 Mar 2017

So now we see if it precedes a trade.

This is the interesting part. I honestly don't know whether to be happy about this, or not. I love Cousins and hope he stays, but if he's leaving for sure, I want something for him.

I would say the Redskins should draft a quarterback but this year's class isn't very deep, and I'd rather them use their higher rounds on the defense.

I'll take Carlos Hyde along with those picks. + a 3rd rounder.
And some bacon.

long term deal is still possible. At this point I expect a long term deal or he plays under the FT. I don't think he's going anywhere via trade.
