That's pretty much the way I see it. Hatcher had a bunch of hurries and QB hits, PFF rates him as a top 10 interior pass rusher and 5th best pass rush productivity for 34 DEs.

I think Knighton is getting a worse rap then his play warrants. His production at 4mil seems fair to me. Now if we could land Ian Willliams or Damon Harrison for the same money, I'm all for it.

I have no idea what they'll do, I know what I think they should do and for me I would hate to see Hatcher and Knighton go.

I have a hard time seeing Murphy as a DE in the base front....in a 4 man line?Maybe, but I can't see him bulking up enough to be a 34 base DE.

I don't think Scott looks at the draft based on positional need at all. That doesn't seem to be his MO at all. Scott has professed to be a Best Player Available advocate.

Now maybe overall he ranks positional needs but I don't think he uses positional need rankings to guide his drafting in the 1st round or any round really. I think he takes the BPA.

But on that note if I had grade the defensive units........

CB=D
S=D
ILB=D
DL=C+ (would be a B if they weren't so old)
OLB=B
Agree. I might put the Foster Compton combo toward the end of the year a bit higher.

I understand you want them back; but do you think either will be here next year?

I would be shopping Murphy hard for a trade right now.
He just doesnt seem to fit anywhere on this team.

Re: Better days ahead. (Off season part 1 thread)

Per nfltraderumors.com:

"Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk writes that the prospect looms of the Rams possibly signing QB Robert Griffin III once the Redskins cut him loose in the coming weeks."

Wouldn't that be a kick in the teeth? The final indignity of that unfortunate trade.

"John Keim of ESPN writes that Redskins GM Scot McCloughan will remain consistent with his approach towards the team’s roster this offseason. According to Keim, the Redskins want to get younger on their defensive line and find another inside linebacker. Washington could use more depth at cornerback, safety, running back and tight end."

Finding D-Line help in this draft should be easy. This draft is as loaded as I can remember with good D-line prospects. I think we can get two good D-line prospects if we want two of them.

At ILB, one of Jaylon Smith, Reggie Ragland, Kentrell Brothers and Scooby Wright should be available to us.

I think we could probably find good players at CB, WR, RB, and TE in this draft, as well.

Well, we had 2012. The Rams haven't even sniffed success since the trade. Though I guess one could argue we would have been better off last year if we had not done the trade....

I could really care less where RGIII ends up. Best of luck to him but it's over here.

Re: Better days ahead. (Off season part 1 thread)

as far as rgiii, whatever. he's not helping us, so where he goes really doesn't matter.

i think our best DL next year may be the guy that's been sitting on IR all season. that's a valid hatcher replacement. knighton looked like just a guy to me. he wasn't terrible, but he didn't really prove he's worth big money either. we'll probably draft a guy and see who's available in FA (which might be knighton on another cheap contract if there's no real value elsewhere).

as for the draft, i'm not sure you can say that scot is 100% bpa. he seems to hit needs, but i guess when you're terrible everything is a need. he does seem to know what he's doing (mild understatement).

There is talk of Trent Murphy moving to DE, which I would be fine with, also if Robert Kdemche (spelling that wrong) is available at 21, I would snatch him up

Good eye on Robert! Reminds me of Justin Tuck.

Trent is country strong and he's a good tackler with some pass rush moves but I wonder if he can carry the weight he'd need to put on to play DE. If so, I think he could be part of a D-Line rotation.

Re: Better days ahead. (Off season part 1 thread)

Per nfltraderumors.com:

"Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports reports that the Redskins and QB Kirk Cousins were 'nowhere near' an agreement on a long-term extension at the conclusion of the Senior Bowl a few weeks ago.

According to La Canfora, this could lead to the Redskins using their franchise tag on Cousins in the coming weeks, barring major progress towards an agreement.

Recent reports have said that Cousins will likely end up with a blockbuster contract when all is said and done.

However, it could require them to franchise Cousins at the cost of $19 million or so in order to buy some additional time to work out a long-term deal.

Bengals QB Andy Dalton‘s six-year, $96 million deal has come up as a potential starting point for the two sides in contract talks."

No surprise here. Andy Dalton's contract is only the 18th largest QB contract in the league, as measured by $$ per year. Dalton's guaranteed money is quite low compared to his peers at 17% of the total contract amount (Aaron Rodgers is guaranteed 49% of his total contract amount).

I don't think the $19MM tag looms over the contract talks at all because nearly 20 NFL QB's are currently being paid an average amount of $17MM or more annually. Kirk is going to cost a whole lot of money but that is normal for someone like Kirk who I think is among the top two-thirds of NFL QB's in ability.

As we all know, the devil is in the details and that's going to take some time for the two parties to work out.

He's already 260-265, so I'd figure he'd have to gain about 15-25 lbs of good weight.

Galette is OLB edge rusher. Hatcher is DE interior rusher.

I'm not saying it though, Scott has said it himself numerous times.

Seriously. You would think with the success we had last year (albeit small, but still above where everyone thought we would be) people would just forget about it. Who care where he goes, as long as he's not wasting a roster spot here? And of course as long as he doesn't go to a rival and somehow figure it out of course, as unlikely as that might be. But the Rams? Really who cares.

I'd be happy to forget about it as long as Dan Snyder would forget about making such a risky trade ever again. I would also appreciate it if Snyder would resist the urge to pay some fat, lazy, entitled, attitude case $100MM ever again.

I'm not too bitter. I'm just too old for this franchise to take another wrong turn.
