Re: This puts our kicker into perspective
i stand corrected, norwood did not make the pro-bowl in '91, in fact, he was pretty bad (63%) that year.
My thoughts on why I'd like to see a kicking competition (this may lack sense/merit): As for Suisham, the need for competition arises anytime you have a kicker that misses a relatively "easy" clutch kick (just like when a closer in baseball blows a 3 run lead in the 9th, if your name ain't Rivera, you are likely going to get some heat). Had Suisham been attempting a 45+ yard field goal, I think people are more apt to give him the benefit of the doubt, but a 30 yard kick is supposed to be automatic (as is a 3 run lead). Because he is not a vet, and therefore has not been around long enough to demonstrate his mental ability to bounce back from a missed playoff kick, we have to be prepared for what could be a less reliable Suisham in 2008....

I'll add something to the mix - Big Red. Albright had another fantastic year, noted by the fact that he received zero press coverage. It's a huge help to the entire special teams when you know that the ball is going to be in the right spot at the right time.
