I know what AR means son. I spent many beautiful years in that fine organization, an organization that was established 1 year prior to this great nation being formed. If anyone has the right to tell you how it should be done then it would be them as far as I am concerned.

As I have said before I don't care how people do it because they mean well.

Remember this though, when "Martial Law" is implemented who carries out the order and granted control? It might be nice to understand how those people do business.

As far as haircut and mustache regulations are concerned I don't expect people to wear them as directed in Army Regulation 670-1, but people would look a hell of a lot more clean cut if they did.

Having said that people don't have to conform to the way that Military Chorus' sing the National Anthem, but it would sound a lot more clean cut if they did.

If you pull out the sheet music to the NA as it was writen I'm sure it looks nothing like how she sang the song.

Re: The Correct Singing Of The National Anthem

Honestly everyone screws it up. The only people that sing it right are the Military chorus members. You may get all of the words right but once you slow down the tempo and put your own personal stamp on the song you have screwed it up.

I don't get upset about it anymore people don't know any better and they are not trying to be disrespectful. Intent is everything as far as I'm concerned. No ill intent, no harm done. It's like being stupid in public, some people just don't know any better.

I'm not sure about that. Didn't she sing that with a military band? If she did change it up it was not very much.

I understand how some are upset she messed up, but she didn't purposely mess up. This kind of stuff happens all the time. That doesn't mean she hates this country and what the NA represents.

If you want to hate on her for other reasons(music, personal life, etc.) go ahead, but people need to take a step back and direct their negative energy towards another direction.

Associating the national anthem with the SuperBowl, commercializes it. Anything that is commercialized is cheapened to an extent, IMO. It becomes commonplace and over hyped for the wrong reasons.

Re: The Correct Singing Of The National Anthem

She F... up the verse. I have no problem with that. She did not do that nonsense on purpose and if she could get that moment back....she would! I have a bigger problem with the "personalization" of the National Anthem. IMO sing like it is, don't interpret...just MO. If I were the NFL, I would demand to hear the version that will be sung at the game, before game day.
BUT OMG....I have NEVER seen a worse half time show
FAIL.........NFL

Re: The Correct Singing Of The National Anthem

I think in the future they should just have a regular singer, someone who will perform the national anthem as it is written, and sung in the traditional sense.

No need to put all the bullshit on it and all the crazy vocal runs. Just sing it nice and normal.

This police officer did a fine job.
YouTube - WORST National Anthem EVER.

On a funny note, watch this guy. Also a police officer, he hilariously butchers most of the words, while keeping the melody intact.
YouTube - Cop butchers National Anthem

Some of the best renditions I have heard were from members of the military. They sing it properly and there ARE talented singers outside of MTV.

Agreed on that!

I understand what people here are talking about it being a "rendition" of the song, but you have to admit that some of these crazy runs that some of these singers like to invoke are a little too over the top!

Incidentally, I remember hearing C.A. sing the National Anthem for the NBA Finals and she did a heck of a job. Didn't seem to be as over the top with the runs. I think probably what happened was that she got nervous and tried to over correct.

Re: The Correct Singing Of The National Anthem

This is ridiculous, no one has a monopoly on how to sing it correctly...they are all renditions...just have some talent and say the words and you'll do fine.

And here is the correct way U.S. citizens should observe the National Anthem (As SS mentioned earlier, I hate that damn "OOOHHH" from fans too).

TITLE 36–PATRIOTIC AND NATIONAL OBSERVANCES, CEREMONIES, AND ORGANIZATIONS
    • SUBTITLE I–PATRIOTIC AND NATIONAL OBSERVANCES AND CEREMONIES
      • PART A–OBSERVANCES AND CEREMONIES
        • CHAPTER 3–NATIONAL ANTHEM, MOTTO, FLORAL EMBLEM, AND MARCH
          • Section 301–National Anthem
Sec. 301. National anthem
(a) Designation.–The composition consisting of the words and music
known as the Star-Spangled Banner is the national anthem.
(b) Conduct During Playing.–During a rendition of the national
anthem–
(1) when the flag is displayed–
(A) all present except those in uniform should stand at
attention facing the flag with the right hand over the heart;
(B) men not in uniform should remove their headdress with
their right hand and hold the headdress at the left shoulder,
the hand being over the heart; and
(C) individuals in uniform should give the military salute
at the first note of the anthem and maintain that position until
the last note; and
(2) when the flag is not displayed, all present should face
toward the music and act in the same manner they would if the flag
were displayed.
Good post this AM also, agree 100%.
