People talk great about his potential, but lets not get carried away. The guy is not yet Bret Farve. Bress had one sub-par (Ramsey like) year, in 2003. In 2001 (rookie year) he did not play. BUt in his other two years 2002 and 2004 he had better numbers than Ramsey has ever in any NFL season. Check for yourself. Brees' QB rating in 2002 was 76.9, better than Ramsey's QB rating in ANY year. Brees had an amazing 40 passes over 20+ yards in 2002. The only diffrence between Brees' 2002 and 2004 (pro Bowl year) was that his interceptions went way down. I am not sure what source you were using when you said, "Bree's wasen't even considered to be in the same class as Ramsey NOT EVEN CLOSE!" The Press? Those guys are all pencil necked geeks and never played football in their life. |

Re: Do you guys think ramsey the answer at qb
Ramsey was used as a punching bag under Spurrier and spent most of that season eating turf.
You can't blame it all on Ramsey. It all starts with the offensive line. Our line stuggled last year without Jansen, and he protects the QB's blind side. Raymer and Friedman weren't the best at center. Dockery struggled too. This had an impact on Ramsey who was sacked 23 times. The knock on Ramsey is that he holds onto the ball too long, but this can be corrected. This season I have a cause for optimism with our improved line (heathly Jansen, and better center, Rabach) Ramsey should do better. We saw a glimpse of this towards the end of last season when Ramsey started to become comfortable in Joe's system, and they opened the offense a little, and I liked how Patrick performed. Gibbs is tinkering with the offense, will put in the shotgun, which should also help. He really needs a full season under Gibbs to see his full potential. Ramsey is the key to our entire season---if he can't throw the ball down field then the other teams will crowd the line and stop our running game. And it will be like last year, our defense will be very good, and our offense will suck and we will have another 6-10 season......We can look back with hindsight and speculate what would've happened had Gibbs gone with Ramsey from the start last season....but that's the past and we gotta go with Patrick and see what we got, if he isn't the answer, then here comes Campbell.

Probably the pencil necked geek's in San Diego who after drafting Bree's #1 a couple of year's earlier went and drafted River's to take his place, only a holdout kept Rivers from starting and stopped the talk of Bree's being cut. The only difference in Bree's is his INT's went way down??????? WHY DO THINK THAT IS???????? You don't believe Ramsey's INT's will go down as he get's some protection and familiarity with this offense???? Bree's didn't play much his first year? WHY? Ramsey played his first year and very well for a rookie, you may notice as you continue to read up on your stat's that Ramsey didn't play in many game's his first couple of year's do to the fact that he was a rookie, as well as he had an injury which he played through even though he couldn't throw off his back foot, while being pummled time and again by SS's blocking schemes, then he has to come into games last season to try and bail out Brunnell and learn a new offense on the run considering Brunnel recieved most of the rep's and preperation of the new offense. I will say this about Campbell, Brunell a seasoned veteran, and Ramsey a near genious had all they could do to try an comprehend Gibbs offense, and I am to believe this kid out of college who is green at best is going to master it, especially after his wonderlik score of 9 the first time he took it? That he will be starting next year? Perhap's? That is, if Ramsey's arm's and leg's fall off. My source on Bree's is this Miami was offering us 2 #1's for Ramsey when talk was circulating that Bree's may be released, you don't think the Charger's knowing they were going with a new QB wouldn't have taken anything for Bree's if they could have gotten it? No one was offering the charger's anything for Bree's because they all new Bree's was on his way out the door before River's held out, Bree's has also had the opportunity of stability with Marty, yet we can't give the same oppotunity to Ramsey? I am not even concerned that Ramsey is the good's I know he is, my biggest concern is that Gibbs football mind catches up with the new era in the NFL. |

Re: Do you guys think ramsey the answer at qb
Well...in the history of Redskin QB's, the last one that I truly believed in was Theismann. Even when D. Williams and Rypien were starting, they always made me nervous. Joey T. was just so friggin' competitive and he hated the Cowboys and would do just about anything to shove it in their faces. There's some great old video of Joey T. spiking the ball at the helmet of a puss-ass cowboy in the endzone after he scored and a fight erupted. Great days indeed!! I would like to see a little passion and fire and heart out of Patrick. If he can tap into that, maybe that will vault him into a big game kind of player. Like I said earlier, this is THE year for him. If strides are not made, he will be gone. But I am pulling for the kid and I am still more comfortable with him starting than the rook or BooNell.

I beleive that we may have seen the last of the flat footed QB's who can still make it to the big game without getting killed, but I'm smart enough to realize that there is no statistic for me to base that belief on, just a feeling. One quote from gibbs I will always remember is when he was talking about his QB's and said something like: "If you can really protect your QB, there are probalbly about 15- 20 in the league that can take you all the way. If you don't, there are only one or two."

Re: Do you guys think ramsey the answer at qb
Ramsey's horrid stats from his relief appearance have come up a couple of times in this thread (and many others), so I'd like to point out that, unlike some other teams, the 2nd string QB gets just about zero reps during weekly practice. Ramsey looked bad that day, but his sinis were sins of aggression (throwing into tight coverage on "homerun" plays) while trying to come from behind. That's hard under any circumstance, much harder when you've gone nearly a month since any meaningful practice with the players on the field.
defensewins is right - you can't throw out bad games. But you should look at the circumstances surrounding them.

Re: Do you guys think ramsey the answer at qb
There's only one way to find out who's right or wrong in this neverending Ramsey debate. And that's sit back and watch the 2005 season. Next year we'll know where we stand with Ramsey.

Re: Do you guys think ramsey the answer at qb
[QUOTE=portistothehouse]To me the problem with Ramsey is that his just not that good.
QUOTE] You are right! Welcome to the board ptth! He's not! But he is better than Brunnell, and only has to stay upright in camp to be better (at least for now) than Campbell. It is P. Ram's job to lose. Campbell would have to prove a to be a tremendous combination of smarts and skills, combined with the ability to do it all with only 1/4 of the reps.
