SS, can you answer this...how do you think the reaction of the Path will be with the coach we are looking at to replace Haslett and will he (or she if Rex Ryan) continue with the 3-4?

Some will always be upset by that. Me? We could run a 0-7 for all I care. Just give me results

It looks like Ron Rivera will be getting the boot in Carolina, I remember liking him as a D coordinator. What was his specialty (3-4 vs 4-3) and what about him in the offseason.

Rivera is a prick for lack of a better term.

Quote:
06:54 AM ET 09.13 | Rex Grossman, the NFL's favorite pinata took another beating off of it after San Diego linebacker Matt Wilhelm told a California newspaper that Chargers linebackers coach Ron Rivera advised his players they could rattle Grossman because he was "a mental midget."
But to answer your question, both. He was the DCoordinator for the Bears from 04 to 06 then he went to the Chargers originally as a LB coach specifically to get 3-4 experience and boost his chances of getting a HC job. He eventually went on to be the Chargers D-Coordintor from 08-10 before getting his current gig with Carolina.

OK -- Fletcher, Alexander, and Wilson are guys whose opinions on this I would value (especially the first two).

Just another reason for me. Fire his ass now. Doesn't have to be Morris to replace him. We have other position coaches besides Morris.

Instead of Butting heads they need to go make some plays out there on the field. London Fletcher is a liabilty in pass coverage at his age. London gets owned by most opponets TE's. Haslett cant take all the blame for this shit show on defense.

Not suitable for a poll, but the most important question on defense is: How the flying f*ck do you end up in a 3-4 defense w/o coaches OR players suited for it???

Reminds me of how Zorn was trying to learn the WCO and coach it at the same time.

My point is, if you are not good at the 3-4 defense why try to coach it. Do what you do.

Zorn wasn't new to the WCO though

We have a short list of potential DC's next year. None have ever been a DC yet in the NFL (that I recall)

Little known fact, Zorn never knew what the west coast offense was when he was in Seattle. Interestingly, he was never actually employed for the Seahawks as a QB coach, he'd just come in periodically and whip dodgeballs and pool noodles at Matt hasselback for fun. Hasselback became good at getting around them, which improved his pocket presence, so they let Zorn keep doing it. To this day, he has no clue what an offensive scheme is.

The similarities between this regime and the Cerrato/Zorn regime (if you could call it that) are pretty mind-blowing.

1) Big FA signings that don't make sense, and don't have any impact. Cerrato/Zorn became infamous for Fat Albert. BA/Shanny, on the other hand, signed a handful of players that altogether add up to more than the Haynesworth contract, and have made even less impact. The difference being this regime is given a pass by most of the fan base, at least up to this point.

2) Bizarre play-calling and play-design, that some try to explain as genius now, whereas Zorn took a ton of shit for it.

3) Poor discipline and preparation, as evidenced in two games already where players just lost it (St. Louis and Pittsburgh).

They're eerily similar side by side, but again this regime is constantly given the benefit of the doubt despite results as poor as Zorn achieved.
