Re: New Look Defense
Actually, I am aiming a bit higher, but stop someone on third would be a pleasant start.....
People get very hung up on the 3/4.....4/3 thing. He does a good job dispelling it.

Re: New Look Defense
Thing I'm worried about for our defense: LB's in pass coverage
Besides Keenan Robinson, all of our remaining LB's are below average in pass coverage. Trent Murphy in coverage = no thanks Preston Smith = haven't seen him yet, but seems to be a little too big to be any more than average in coverage Perry Riley = we all watched last season Ryan Kerrigan = decent in coverage, definitely not his strong point Martrell Spaight = Everything I've read about him says he is a work in progress in pass coverage, and that was at the college level. Jackson Jeffcoat = don't really know much about him, but seem more like a rushing specialist. Don't really see us playing a lot of Base 3-4 that doesn't involve the OLB's not rushing the passer. I would imagine the base 3-4 will involve a lot of 5 man pass rushes, with both OLB's getting after the QB. Which leaves 1 less in coverage, but more pressure on QB. I think we will see a good balance of 4-3, 3-4, and nickel packages. HTTR!!

Our defensive line scheme change to a more attacking style combined with a greatly improved DL personnel will generate more pass rush. LB's being hung out to dry for a long time in coverage will hopefully be a thing of the Hasslett past. |

Barry and Fewell both use more sub-packages with special personnel. Under Blache we did something similar with the 'cobra' package that put 3 LBs on the field and removed a LB. Under Barry I could think we will see more sub-packages in the secondary. It could be Dashon, Duke and Jeron. |

Kerrigan should have his hand in the dirt all the time, as should Preston Smith at 270lbs. Murphy has 0 skills in coverage. I don 't think I ever saw Manley and Mann trying to cover cause it made no sense. Best rushers = hand in the dirt and get after the qb. Leave the coverage smaller athletic LB's like Monte Coleman. |

Re: New Look Defense
![]() I think Paea or Hatcher moves to LE don't see the point in starting an inferior player in Ricky Jean. I would put Duke at SS to start the season and let Jeron works as back-up FS just in case Dashon is really done. I'm really rooting for Amerson to bounce back, if he plays up to his physical gifts together with Cully they can be a huge boost for the D. |

I agree with you on Ricky Jean and in fact I don't think this at all reflects the team's intended starting defensive line. It will definitely be Hatcher, Knighton, Paea starting.

There is zero chance that Francois starts over Hatcher.

Re: New Look Defense
I also don't agree with Breeland as orange. I'd put him yellow with upside.
And Goldson rating as red/poor based on his Bucs play last year is totally fair, but also completely irrelevant. This will be a totally different scheme and he'll be utilized totally differently.
