No way that Sean misses any games due to any of this. The charges have basically been dropped. If there is no case and no admitance of guilt, then why would there be any punishment from the league?

There is still the misdemanour charge. The league could give him a 1 game suspension (2 at the most, but unlikely), but the question is WHEN will the league decide to do it. It could be immediately, in which case I'm not worried about him sitting out the Vikings game. If the league takes its own sweet time, it could drop the 1 game suspension hammer for a crucial mid-season division game.

Recently the league has been imposing a one game suspension to anyone who pleads guilty to a crime. A no contest plea isn't the same as guilty, but with his history (spitting incident, DWI arrest he was acquitted of) the league may slap him with a game anyways.

I think that the NFL has nothing here. I expect no suspension at all on this. You cannot take a pattern of on field behavior, combine it it with a non convicted off-field incident and then suspend a player. My bet is that if something does happen the players association would have something to say about it.

No crime = No punishment

Nice try but you don't have to plea "No Contest" and pay a $1000 fine per school and give ten speechs for not doing a crime .

The $1000 per school and speeches are for the assult charges which Taylor never denied. So to you I say, "Nice try!!"

unless you want to avoid trial and actually be available on sundays for nfl games this year :P

losing his paychecks and time would cost far more than 10k$. people plead out all the time, and unless you have evidence or you've talked to ST about it, don't assume you know everything about the case from the biased info that grieco leaked to newspapers. he's a crook and the people accusing taylor are career criminals as well.

best case, he really was a victim, worst case, everyone involved was a thug, in which case its a wash.

Great news! As for the other Taylor (Jacobs), we can afford to keep him around another year. Thrash is no better a WR and although people still believe he's valuable in the return game there were noticeably some mistakes he made fielding punts which, by the way Randle El now does.

I like how they reference Taylor's father in the very last sentence of the article: "[Taylor's] father, Pedro Taylor, is chief of police in Florida City, Fla."

I'm sure the fact that his father is a police chief had nothing to do with anything.

Don't be so quick to say that. I myself don't see how they can cuz he has not been convicted of a crime nor has he admitted to one. But as it was stated on yahoo,
"The NFL could still impose a fine or suspend Taylor for one or more games, Sharpstein said, but league officials did not immediately return a telephone call seeking comment. The Redskins also declined comment but have publicly supported Taylor in the past."

I guess the NFL "could" do a lot of things to Sean, but I just don't think there is any precedent for them to do that. Most of the other times that guys get fined and suspended, it is for things that they have messed up with the league. This is a case outside of the league that has basically been dropped. If you are the league what do you say when you impose a penalty on Sean? "Well he was almost guilty, so we are suspending him for 2 games." I mean there is some punshment already with the whole $1000 having to be given to the schools that were mentioned. Kind of like community service.

Exactly. Where in the rules does it say that the NFL will impose a fine and/or suspend a player for a certain number of games for being accused of a crime, even after charges are dropped?

Unfortunately, the charges were not dropped. The trial will proceed as usual, however the two sides have agreed not to argue in court. After the trial, Sean will not be found guilty, but he will also NOT be acquited. So basically, the NFL can decide to do whatever they want--fine, suspend, or nothing.

I'll bet they suspend him for at least 1 game.

It is now the equivalent of stealing 20 bucks and jay walking. I love it. God Bless overzealous incompetent prosecutors, and teams of defense attornies who clearly did better on the bar.

I love it. I think his community service should be making an appearance at the former prosecutor's weekly party.
