Re: 2016 Redskins Salary Cap Status

Gonna be a fun offseason, draft is so deep this year also. Hopefully we get a bunch of picks.

Re: 2016 Redskins Salary Cap Status

reportedly the cap will go to $155 million, $12 million higher than last year

At last report the Redskins had $10 million in space, this was based on what projected cap limit ?

Re: 2016 Redskins Salary Cap Status

Original post updated for small adjustments. The NFL salary cap was announced at 155.1M, We had tentatively assumed 153M. Also, the Redskins carried over 5.8M in cap space from 2015, it was previously estimated that they would carry over 7.0M.

The two changes net out to 0.9M more in cap space than the original post estimated.

Re: 2016 Redskins Salary Cap Status

Original post was updated to reflect Kirk Cousins receiving the non exclusive franchise tag, which carries a cap hit of $19.9M.

This move adds Cousins back to the roster, kicking a player out of the top 51.

I have the Redskins currently over the cap by ($1.6M). They'll need to make moves to free necessary cap space, the most obvious being releasing or trading Griffin. The team must be under the cap by 4pm eastern on March 9, per league rules.

Re: 2016 Redskins Salary Cap Status

Original post was updated again. The top 51 carried a higher cap total than was previously estimated here, due to incentive adjustments. Numbers were revised, Redskins are currently ($6.1M) over the cap, and will be $10M under it once Griffin is released or traded.

Re: 2016 Redskins Salary Cap Status

The original post was edited to reflect the release of Robert Griffin III and Jason Hatcher.

Redskins cap room now stands at $13.8M. As more transactions are reported I will continue to update.

Re: 2016 Redskins Salary Cap Status

Hoping to hear news on a Junior Galette resigning sometime before Wednesday at 4pm. I'm thinking a chunk of this new cap space is earmarked for him. He might cost them more than they wanted to pay.

if he's asking too much, they can see what other teams are offering and match it or pass. it would be nice to get him on the field though.

No! If he's ready to go, get him signed without giving other teams a shot at him. Good edge rushers are like gold in the NFL. He's not going to break the bank coming off of an achilles injury.

well, teams can already contact him now and we have right of refusal to match any offer he accepts, so it's too late for that.

Re: 2016 Redskins Salary Cap Status

Original post updated again to reflect recent tenders to the following players:

Tendered Will Compton $0.6M
Tendered Tress Way $0.6M
Tendered Chris Thompson $0.7M
Tendered Duke Ihenacho $1.7M
Combined Cap Space Used: $3.6M

These moves booted 4 players from the top 51, creating 2.0M in cap space.

So the net impact of the tenders on the cap: used up $1.6M in cap space. Redskins cap room now estimated at $20.2M.
