re: Portis heard his groin "pop" (out 4-6 weeks)
^ Great talent doesn't always make it to the field. Coach's just don't leave great talent on the bench, especially if they could help the team.

Is this list any better?
NFL Free Agents Grades and Free Agency Rumors - National Football League - ESPN Edit: apparently not. They still have Betts as released by the Saints. |

Okay, it looks like Portis will be out for a while. It's sounding more and more like 3 weeks, maybe more.

i would like to trade away albert for some draft picks and hopefully nab mark ingram from bama so we can secure our future running game.

they want to trade thomas. why not try and use devin thomas in a trade to get Brandon Jacobs? He is unhappy in NY. He could come in and be a playmaker right away...let him and Torain split carries and we have a good tandem...

we could finagle jacobs but it would require a multi team trade the giants have depth at receiver. plus they would want a back in return. maybe lynch to the giants thomas to the bills jacobs to the skins.

Jacobs blows, plus he would be a horrible fit in this zone scheme.

re: Portis heard his groin "pop" (out 4-6 weeks)
I agree. He will do what his coaches ask, always has always will and, usually, without too much of a fuss. At the same time, there has always been an understanding that he is "The Guy". One of the attributes that makes (made) him a great player is that he believes he is one of the best. I don't think that's true anymore. I don't think anyone believes that anymore - except CP. I am just not sure he can step down from that and acknowledge that someone else on the team can play his position better.
I freely admit I may be dead wrong on this, it just a feeling I have.

He was utter crap last year. This year, they kept on prodding him under his ass with LJ and now Torain, and he was finally running well and like he gave a damn.

re: Portis heard his groin "pop" (out 4-6 weeks)
Did I miss something? I thought Torain was supposed to carry the bulk of the load and Portis be the 3rd down back for passing situations. K.Williams was picked up by us because he was supposed to be pretty good. I thought Torain was picked up by Shanahan while he was actually in Denver, then Torain was cut by Denver and we picked him up because he knew the system and Shanahan liked him.
So in a nutshell don't we have 2 good RB's in Torain and Williams and I have not even started talking about Simpson who ran pretty good in preseason in Buffalo before getting cut. Can we not see what we have in Torain and Williams as a duo and maybe spot Simpson a couple of carries to see how he will handle it before we start talking about trading people away for other teams RB's or trading for draft picks in order to pick up a RB? I'd rather the team use what we have and if need be put a FB in the back field to block then to start casting people off to pick up a RB who would not be used until he learned the scheme. If they don't want to use Simpson and don't trust Sellers to block well enough then bring up the FB from the PS they have and see if he understands the blocking scheme's. |

He's an overpaid, banged-up backup. There is no market for him, let alone value meriting a multi-team trade. The Giants only way of moving him is cutting him, mainly because of his contract, additionally because of his recent performance.

Were you at the MRI? I've heard nothing about it. Portis was saying he doesn't think the team will let him play Sunday, meaning, he thinks he could. I say he'll miss this week and have a limited role against the Colts. Sure he could re-injure it but I think he'll be back after this week.

Doesn't excuse his lousy approach to practice. Betts and Cartwright made mention of it. He had good years for us, no doubt, but I believe that they would have been even more amazing if there someone behind him that actually would have intimidated him just a little. Sadly, too little too late.
