Re: Redskins Free Agency 2016

Without the details, doesn't the eagles trade of Murray benefit the eagles? They get him foe the first year of his service presumably at the cheapest per year rate of said contract then get to trade for some kinda comp?

Seems madden like to me. Sign big name then trade for comp and not incur future cap consequences.

Of course I don't know the details.

the signing bonus etc are still paid by the original team, so it's not a cap free move for the iggles. it also doesn't guarantee a comp pick. comp picks are determined by FA losses over FA gains... i'm pretty sure trades don't even count in the comp formula at all, since that player didn't actually leave via FA/expired contract.

Drove into work today, and I forget the which Skins media member said it but he was saying to watch McC and the Seattle ties especially with Kam Chancellor. Kam would be the leadership replacement for Goldson, Hatcher, and Potroast vacuum.

He was also saying that the Skins might give more 4-3 looks on defense. McC and Barry are looking for a better way to stop the run and changes to scheme are on the table.

Guess that explains the interest in Long too (not saying I like it)...

Long is 6'3 268. He's basically built exactly like Preston Smith. Even if 4-3 changes are on the table (they line up in a 4-3 alignment a lot anyway), then Long fits as McC's preferred body type for a 3-4 OLB.

His experience of course is in the 4-3 though so of course that lends credence to the thought that they'd consider 4-3 as the new base.

Interesting. I thought I read somewhere they'd want him to play closer to 280 (what he played at in college).

Also, the more I think about it, the more I want us to cut Culliver. I think for the money, we could do one more stop-gap and then be able to extend our own free agents.

Re: Redskins Free Agency 2016

The Eagles cleared a lot of cap space by trading Murray and Maxwell. I know that seems counter intuitive, but neither guy was given a big signing bonus up front. Instead the contracts contained big guaranteed salaries in the first, second, and third years of the deal.

In the case of Maxwell the Dolphins were willing to take on the guaranteed salaries (LOL at that). In Murray's case, he wanted out of Philly so bad that he helped restructure the guaranteed money such that it made the deal more palatable for Tennessee.

So the Eagles got out from under most of the guaranteed money. Hat tip to Howie Roseman for being a smart MFer last year. Chip said sign these two guys, and Howie negotiated deals that he knew he could get out from under if Chip weren't around for long.

Pretty masterful job as much as it sickens me to say it.

Out of ALL teams in the NFCE, I'm worried most about them. GREAT defense only going to get better with Schwartz. Offense is still a mess, but they have a lot of cap room AND draft picks to fix that.

Re: Redskins Free Agency 2016

Even if the Eagles are clearing cap, to go out and spend again in the same fashion probably not the correct course of action. And they are basically "starting over" which is never easy with a rookie HC and a roster that is depleted talent wise. Sure they can add new guys, but as we've seen numerous times in Philadelphia....chemistry matters. Matters a lot. New faces don't equal success.

Lotta holes to fill. They got good TEs, a good safety and a two really good Dlinemen.

Oline is garbage, WR is garbage, Ryan Matthews is the Sam Bradford of RBs. Linebackers are garbage.

When Demarco Murray goes for 1200 and 10 TDs this year....

You want some good news? Sam Bradford is their QB.

Well said, and overall this is a pretty lackluster free agent class.

It's their huge stock of draft picks that will help them, but that will take time. They have a 1st, two 3rds, a 4th, two 5ths, a 6th, and two 7ths. And that's before anything they just got in the Maxwell and Murray deals. This is a deep draft, if they can actually figure out how to evaluate talent they can do some damage in a few years. That's a big if though. Ahem, Marcus Smith, ahem.

I think we still need a CB regardless. Ky and DHall can play FS/SSG and slot. Duke SSG but can play some Free.

Breland has 1 CB spot locked down. The other is pending Cully's recovery/return to form and it would be nice to have a dedicated NB.

HA. ALSO true.

I just don't know what to make of their offense with the new coach. Obviously people figured out Kelly, so just don't know what they plan to do. WRs ARE garbage.
