Commanders 2025 Offseason Thread

Im not going to even consider trying to out think AP at this point. Two drafts ago our roster had more holes than a piece of swiss cheese and we were light years away from being taken seriously. Now we have one , I repeat, ONE, position in need of addressing and are fresh off a Championship game. He took a WR/Return guy in the fourth round. Both needs. He has addressed the secondary which in turn helps our current edge rushers get to the quarterback.

We were an abysmal joke of a team not long ago, now our floor is 10 wins.

Can anyone remember the last time we went into a season and you thought playoffs with a straight face ? A-lot of you were not even born. Lol.

Fowler was great depth, produced fantasticly last year. Pissed he went to the cowgirls. Team had/has other plans would say best of luck but that doesn't apply next season.

Cant wait til edge is fine, lane balls out and we have a solid season and everyone is happy lmao - wishful thinking HAIL

Agree on Fowler. 10.5 sacks is nothing to scoff at and not easily replaceable. Surprised he wasn't retained honestly. Hoping Lane does great in the NFL. He is fast and brings some unique skills.

Good read on him below:

True that 10.5 sacks is nothing to sneeze at. Think Fowler is going to do that again? He has been in the league for 10 seasons. Two good years 2019 getting 11.5 sacks . . . and last year getting 10.5 sacks. His remaining years he had 4, 8, 2, 2, 3, 4.5, 6, and 4 respectively. He is nothing special as a pass rusher and was downright miserable defending the run. I think the combination Jacob Martin and Deatrich Wise is a BIG upgrade over Fowler.

This ! Even in Kiem podcast he touched on the same perspective with Flowers

We were lucky we got that production out of him last year, lighting wasn't going strike twice

I was about to make the same comment. Fowler had a career year in sacks that probably won't repeat. He was also one of the main culprits in a putrid run defense. The problem last year was not pass rush, they were actually pretty high on the list of pressures with Fowler obviously factoring into that.

No the problem as well all know was their complete inability to stop the run, from the first game of the season to the last. If they brought him back as a third down specialist I'd be fine with that. But Dante Fowler as the full time RDE would have been the same problems and without the 10.5 sacks.

How do you know he won't do it again? He credited our all time sacks leader into transforming him into a strong pass rusher. He led the team in sacks last year. He can be subbed out on obvious rushing downs and play during passing plays. Wish he would have been kept.

At this point, I would bring him in for a look. He's 32 but decent production. Article I read said Carolina had a surplus of edges leading to the release along with his contract. Not sure if we'd meet his contract demands, but I could see some type of agreement potentially. Tons of hype coming into the league for him which I know doesn't matter now.

I agree, I dont care if they pay him 10m a year to get him, he is likely far better than anyone we have, and he is not to terrible against the rush. In my eyes, he is better than fowler, just older. Fowler sucked against the run, a pur pass rush specialist. Clowney can do both so he could arguably win a starting end role or at least backup. I worry about his knees though. If I were GM, (thank god I am not) Id sign him to a 7.5 M a year two year deal with 3M signon to get him, if someone better comes along, Id sign them too and potentially trade him. We desperately need a vet pass rusher at this point, the likelihood there will be another who rates better than all we have is 50/50 I would guess GET HIM, we have the cap

Clowney and Fowler are similar - good at pass rush but sucks at stopping run. Might as well as take a look at him for Fowler's role.

If we can get it him on the cheap why not to play passing downs? At this point of career, that may be doubtful though. Doubt he gets a big deal anywhere.
