Smoot was a 1st round talent at Miss. St but fell in the draft due to marijuana in a drug test. Flowers was a top cb in his class until he ran 4.6 at the combine. Smoot was a solid corner when at this best. He played lights out in 2004. His last couple years he was a nickel at best.

I agree w/I think it was Dirtbagg or Slingin Sammy that said CBs are rarely busts when drafted high & they are rarely found in later rounds. One example of an exception is the dude that plays for GB, he was undrafted out of Miami.

Usually though, it does seem like mid rounders like Barnes end up being nickel/dime & spec teams guys. That may just be the importance that teams are putting on it & drafting the best DBs early.

Winner lol
I take Smoot over Hall any day he could cover and tackle, he went downhill after his Minnesota stint.

How do you let Jason Witten, arguably the best TE in the NFL, to get that wide open and outrun your defense for a 59 TD?

Yes, Gano definitely should have made that 49 yard FG. 49 yards out is within the range of every place kicker in the NFL. But it was the defense who couldn't defend after the offense did its part against Dallas.

Unbelievable....excuses for THE WORST KICKER IN THE NFL!!!!

how can this keep happening. Romo is a good QB. Our D held him in check for the most part of the day. They scored that early TD and they had several possessions where they didn't do anything. You can't keep him under wraps all game. Fact is Gano missed two field goals that would have won the game. TWO FIELD GOALS. Yes, one was 52 but the other was 40something... That should be virtually automatic for NFL kickers if they are halfway decent.

point is when the guys steps up from 35 to 45 it is like 50-50 shot he's going to make it. I just dont understand how so many people make excuses for him... It really baffles me. He is the worst kicker in the NFL two years running. He has missed more FG this year than any kicker in the NFL. Kicking a 40 - 45 yard field goal shouldn't be as nailbiting as it is when he kicks. I just know he is going to miss it everytime he kicks it. WHen he makes it I am blown away... shouldn't it be the other way around.

While 52 and 49 yard FG aren't gimmes, I agree that he needs to hit those. If one of his strengths is his leg and long distance range, he needs to be consistent from there. I'd rather have a guy who is a lock from inside 50 with limited distance than a scattershot leg like Gano all over the field with power from 59.

To quote Rich Eisen, you can't spell Gano without Gah-NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Complaining about the kicker kinda feels like complaining about the refs to me.

I dont think so at all. I was just looking up Gano's stats. He is a career 69% kicker. That is dead last in the NFL over the last 3 years. The closest to him is 73%. We can't find a kicker that would be in the top 20 - 25 in the NFL. THey are around 80%. He is directly affecting outcomes of close games. This one we should have won, the game in Dallas he cost us as well missing a field goal. That is two games that if he makes kicks we are 5-5 vs 3-7.

He's got a little longer of a rope cause he's got a big leg but at some point he's gotta start making clutch kicks.

Or maybe if we could just score more TDs rather than having to rely on a 52 yarder to win...
