Sober up Redskins. Walk it off.
Enough Alarm For a Wakeup Call
I like Michael Wilbon b/c hes too the point, honest, and a die hard fan. So I'm hesitant to believe what I see. The Indianapolis Colts were 0-4 in the preseason last year and went 14-2. But I was cautioned by NFL scouts who have seen the Redskins on film and/or in person the last three weeks that there are some red flags. They caution that, while the final scores of these games are meaningless, the way the starters play is not. Scouts say that the starters for Carolina, the Eagles, Buccaneers, Seahawks, the Giants and several other NFC teams have looked good in their limited appearances before coming out. Quite a few teams, the scouts caution, are showing progress each week that the Redskins haven't shown. Mark Brunell completed only 7 of 16 passes for 51 yards. I guess it doesnt matter how far away you are from the top of the mountain if you ultimately know thats where you will end up. We can see its still 0-0 record all around and this is when Gibbs' and the coaching team challenges them. At 5-6 last year Gibbs asked, what is it going to be? Without being in the hole at all, with 2 weeks, we will sober up, come together and let the good times roll.

Re: Sober up Redskins. Walk it off.
Besides learning a new system on offense, with a new coordinator and a number of new players, the Redskins have had an unreasonable if understandable expectation of great things happening this season. I think people's heads got a little inflated and these games are something of a reality check.
Tiger Woods is like the Redskins I think however - he was willing to start over a number of times in his career on new approaches to his golf swing, and it cost him success in the short run. People thought everyone had caught up to him. And for awhile they did, because Woods was willing to take a step backwards so he could ultimately take two steps forward. And you see the result recently for him. Gibbs and the staff was willing to switch to having Al Saunders come in and take over the coordination of the offense. We are in fact taking a step back, but it is all with an eye on taking two steps or more forward. A wise man said, "Patience is all the strength that a man needs." |

BTW- wilbon is not a Redskins fan. I go to Vegas quit a bit and I see him on the Air Tran flights to Phoenix. He is ALWAYS wearing a Bears hat.

Wilbon is a Chicago guy. But I respect his opinion and agree with it.

I've said it before and will again. Preseason means nothing. In fact preseason is why I've been posting the cheerleader pictures to get you guys focused and ready for the real season. Look sharp boys the Vikings are coming! Argh!
Sober up? Nope! I say drink up Shiner! What you are seeing is "not" your Washington Redskins peace

Wilbon is a chicago guy, but I thought this was a pretty good article. He says at the end that we can't tell yet, but that the signs are not encouraging.

Re: Sober up Redskins. Walk it off.
I wish i had a pair of the rose colored glasses a lot of you have,I'm watching the rebroadcast now with 5;28 left in the 3rd qtr and I've never seen the redskins so pathetic,no protection, dropped passes, penalties, terrible special teams, the d looks pathetic, next someone will say the d was only showing 2percent of its defense! everyones talking about how bad the off is but the def looked worse!!
frost still looks like crap and is good for at least 1 shank a game, which will probably come when we can least afford it,he's not magically going to get better,he's been doing the same thing since he's been a skin, the only positive thing i can say about him is that his kickoffs go deeper than halls, which aint saying much the only solace i can come away with is i dont see how we can possibly be this bad,i'm speechless to how bad we look,no i'm not ,we suck |
