Yes, it's true. Very sad. Didn't even know he had pancreatic cancer (which is one of the worst you can have)

Found it on NBC Sports. He will be missed, his contributions to Pro Football as a player and as one who tended to the best interest of all players are imeasurable.

Not exactly how we all thought this might play out. Aside from the real issues involving his death the power struggles within the union set a pretty intersting context for this development. I am guessing there are some people in the NFL front offices who see this as a positive development labor wise even though it is obviously an awful development for his friends and family and really the football world in general.

Mawae was plopped into that spot when Vincent was part of the coup attempt or semi-coup attempt I believe. It'll be interesting to see whether he or Vincent gets the job. I'd imagine there aren't any other candidates.

It truly is a shame that this is getting very little attention. Brett Favre passes gas and there are 10 reporters on site to describe the scent. Shame on ESPN and all others who are slow to report this. Gene Upshaw deserves much better than this. Kudos to the Warpath for giving this the attention it deserves.

RIP Mr. Upshaw
