King predicts Haynesworth to Redskins

In fact, Washington might be the logical landing spot. Hmmmm. I wonder why Redskins owner Dan Snyder was having dinner with the agent for Haynesworth, Chad Speck, at Morton's here Saturday night. I'm sure they were just talking about how it was colder here than at the Arctic Circle. But I kept asking all weekend: "Who wants Haynesworth -- or, more appropriately, who's going to pony up for him?'' And I got the old "it only takes one'' answer a few times. But one coach told me the smartest thing, and this was a coach who has some interest in getting Haynesworth at the right price, which is about half of what Haynesworth is hoping to get. "Everybody I've asked this weekend says, 'We're out of that,' or 'I don't think you'll see us involved in Haynesworth.' ''

I know there is a lot of split opinions on here about Haynesworth, is he a pocket collapsing DT we've all been craving or is he playing for a pay day and now will get fat and lazy?

He's much better than any DT we have now, even when he's not playing for a contract. He's also intimidating and we could use a badass on defense.

Defense wins championships.

Given the probability that the salary cap era is coming to a close, I would pay ANY PRICE to get Albert Haynesworth.

that comment surprised me too. my understanding was that it might go away for a year or two, but would eventually come back in some form or another.

the nflpa (well, its recently deceased head man, gene upshaw, anyway) said that IF the cap goes, it is gone for good.

yeah i know they said that, but IMO it was a negotiating tactic to scare the owners. i never put any stock in it. by all appearances, if a new CBA isnt reached by 2010, the owners are going to lockout the players in 2011. at that point, a new CBA will be negotiated with a salary cap.

i would be shocked if the lockout lasted more than 4-6 games. once players stop receiving those nice weekly paychecks, theyll push the NFLPA to get something done asap.

In reality, i think 2010 will be uncapped, but a new CBA will be signed DURING the 2010 season: In this economy, teams are NOT going to go crazy thowing cash at free agents. What WILL happen though, is the small market teams will take advantage of the lack of a salary FLOOR in 2010 and not spend money on players. Players will throw a fit and force the union to get something done ASAP. In the end, this scenario works really good for the skins. In 2010, we can cut all our aging vets with huge cap numbers and get them off the books. We can also pay tons of bonus money to players in 2010 so that they have lower cap numbers in 2011 and beyond. Once a new CBA is reached, we'll be positioned to be 20-40M under whatever the new cap is just like everyone else. we'll finally have a "clean slate." Hopefully, by that time, Danny will have learned from his past mistakes and not dig us back into another hole.

The owners want it to cause it puts a strain on what they can do. and since the NFLPA does not a bonified leader yet there's no one to argue for or against. I think I heard or read the players would like it gone also cause some teams can't bid on them due to money constraints.

My big question is can the Skins make a deal where he will fall into our CAP space this year and then get his pay day next year after the CAP is gone and not effect the Skins? and then would he go for it? cause I get the impression he wants his payday now.

Had a feeling this rumor might pop up soon

http://www.thewarpath.net/521497-post63.html

Still, it's a bit presumptious (sp?) to think just because Snyder and Speck are having dinner they must be talking about Haynesworth. Maybe they were just having dinner. Maybe they were talking about another one of Speck's clients, Malcolm Kelly.

Sure, sure. Malcolm Kelly. That must have been it. No mention at all of Haynesworth.

NOT! You're way too smart to believe that. Of course they were talking about Haynesworth!

Yea, yea..Malcolm Kelly that's it.

It's not pure conjecture...i would give it about a 99% chance AH's name came up at some point.

Bingo. My first thought when i read this was wondering who else Speck represented. I'm sure Haynesworth was brought up during the conversation (how could he not be?), but theres no way we can put ourselves in a position (financially) to pay Haynesworth.

As to Peppers, I'm pretty sure the Pathers franchised him, and we dont have the ammunition to trade for him. in addition to not being able to afford his salary, by all apperances we are keeping Jason Taylor so i'm not sure how Peppers would fit in with our plans. Really, both Peppers and Taylor are really 3-4 OLBs so i dont understand why we would want both of them.

What does Peppers have to do with this? Did King mention Peppers?
