Selvish Capers interview
HomerMcFanboy » getting to know selvish capers
K, so I am high on this guy, and hope he adds significant depth to our Tackle position, and spells the end of Heyer here. In the article 2 things I found interesting: 1) He said he has spent his time here practicing LT, was really surprised by that. 2) Said Samuels has been there every day helping him and the other rookies. Can't say enough about Samuels, even after retiring. Hope he gets onto the Ring of Fame the minute he is eligible! |

Re: Selvish Capers interview
I take it from what I've read that his stock plummeted after getting beat consistently by speed rushers in the sr. bowl. Is footwork a problem for him? I know he's not that strong based on his combine #s, I believe he only did 18 reps on the bench press.
If strength were his only issues & he's otherwise a good athlete, he might be a great project. I didn't see WVA at all the last couple years so I don't know, but at one point I think he was projected as one of the top 5 tackles in the draft & maybe a 2nd round pick. I'd be happy if just one of those late round guys from this draft ends up as a starter in a few years. |

Re: Selvish Capers interview
I like the fact they are using him on the left side for now. We all know that is the harder position to learn so strating him there were he isn't very comfortable is a good thing. I would like to see how he progresses in training camp and were he will fit in the future. Having 2 rookies over on the LT spot for now does make me nervous!
But I am a West Virginia fan and I am rooting whole heartily to succeed and earn a spot on the starting roster in the next couple of seasons.

A: Apparently Capers was. I'll bet he gets more work at RT going forward.

Re: Selvish Capers interview
Doesn't sound as though he is super intent at trying to get on the field which is a good and a bad thing.

Re: Selvish Capers interview
Every football draft book i read he was always listed in the top 10 OT, with the right coaching he will turn out to be a steal.

Re: Selvish Capers interview
I believe it's safe to say that we all are surprised to hear that Capers have been practicing as LT.. But as the article pointed out, it's more difficult to play LT than RT, which would make it easier for Capers to play RT when needed.. I hope it would be would be within 2-3 years when Capers would win RT spot permanently..

Re: Selvish Capers interview
Capers should be working at both, but ultimately he'll be a RT for us in the future.
I'm still wondering with Trent Williams, Jammal Brown, Selvish Capers, and the versatile Artis Hicks and Mike Williams, does Stephon Heyer make the team this year?

Re: Selvish Capers interview
This is good to hear. We don't hear enough of stories like this in our camp. A rookie prospect that looks promising, given some coaching and increased strength, which is easily worked on. Why don't we just follow the trend, and can his ass for some over the hill vet with blown out knees that will be injured by the 5th game of the season?

Re: Selvish Capers interview
*knock on wood
I hope we just acquired our bookends for the future in the same draft (Silverback at LT and Capers at RT) that would be phenomenal

Re: Selvish Capers interview
If I were a betting man, Id say he would get cut after the first preseason game.

Re: Selvish Capers interview
I don't think he'd get cut that soon though

Re: Selvish Capers interview
Yeah, if nothing else, he has game experience and has played for us in the NFC East.
He could be a serviceable backup were something to happen.
