You're the NBA Commish...
What penalties do you give to:
1. Ron Artest? 2. Stephen Jackson? 3. Jermaine O'neal? 4. Ben Wallace? My answers: 1. 25 Games for Artest. Had a beer cup not actually been thrown at him, I'd give him a year. You just can't go into the stands though I can't really blame him. Someone throws a cup at me in a bar or at a game, I'm going after him. 2. Jackson-10 games. Precedent was established with Vernon Maxwell 3. O'neal-10 games-same as above. (Don't know if all suspensions should be served at once as that will leave the Pacers with no team and almost reward the Piston's fan's bad behavior and provocation as it would derail the Pacers season. 4. Ben Wallace-3 games. Yes, this whole thing started with his shove, but he kept it on the court. |

Artest... Minimum of 15 games, but proboly more. Everyone who is like " I would have done the same thing " is either lying or just as stupid as him. This kinda crap happens all the time, and people dont go running into the stands. Micheal Irvin said on Countdown today he had batteries thrown at him... hes even a Cowboy but stayed on the feild. This thing happens more than people think, you just gotta let security handle it and arrest the punk. I lean closer to the year for Artest.
Jackson/O'neal - Shouldnt have gone into the stands, but there were like 4 guys trying to kick Artests ass, and they came to his aid, so I give them a little more leway. I think a couple of their punches thrown were complete cheapshots, esepcially O'neals to that guy who was on his knees, but it was on the court, so I dont think it should add to the suspension, it was just cheap shot in my opinion. I'd say 6-7 games a peice. Wallace - 3 games sounds about right. It would proobly be 1 game or just a fine if that other crap didnt happen, so i'd say 3. Realisticly, you have to make an example of someone, I think Artest is the obvious fall guy. You need to show everyone in all leagues that this is totaly unacceptable. I would say take him out for the year, and show everyone else how bad what he did was. If they know who those fans were; I would say they should be punished severley as well. Does anyone think jail time will be enforced on the fans or the players?

Wallace: 10 games
Jackson, Artest, and O'Neal: All get 20 games Rasheed didn't throw punches, but he did go into the stands right? Does that alone warrant suspension?

The thing with Rasheed is he didnt throw any punches when he was up there, I think he was genuintley just trying to break it up. However, I would say supspend him just for being in the stands, even though I think he was just trying to help. You gotta set examples

FOX Sports Radio is reporting that the following suspensions will be announced by the NBA:
Artest-30 games Jackson-20 games O'Neal-20 games Ben Wallace-5 games this should give Artest plenty of time to promote his new album

That was such a unique situation, that Rasheed should not get a suspension. If they really have to set an example, give him one game. Still, Rasheed really was trying to be a peacemaker and could be helpful given he was up there with his home fans.

The Pistons fans' behavior was rewarded by the NBA by effectively taking Indiana out of the mix in the east.

Sad but true... Indiana is gonna suck now; however the fans need to be repromanded, every one of them.

guess this gives artest plenty of time to rest and work on promoting his cd some more. I honestly think its too severe for artest and j. oneal and b. wallace's suspension was not enough. wallace's overreaction and shove was the catalyst for the fans getting even more riled up. yes artest severely crossed the line, but an entire season without pay? I honestly don't remember oneal(atleast I think that was him) doing anything in the stands until that fat white dude in the wallace jersey started punching artest's head from behind while artest was being held, but the shot he gave to the fan on the court in my opinion was deserved(not to mention funny as s@!# seeing that dude get knocked the hell out for coming onto the court and trying to start a fight) fans have no business being on the court or field of play before, during, or after a game because more often than not it leads to something bad and/or someone getting hurt. all in all this is one of the ugliest incidents in all sports history and could have been swiftly squashed if the refs, as that guy said in the other thread, had immediately ejected wallace and artest. I didn't watch the game but apparently the refs didn't do much that night to stop some pretty rough play and they should be reprimanded as well. plus did anyone else see the footage of some cop threatening artest on the court with pepper spray while reggie miller and some other guy were trying to keep people away from artest? what the heck was up with that? |

I liked what Woody Page on Cold Pizza said this morning that Artest needs "help" not a 73-game suspension.
IMO, Artest kind of get what he wants. He now can promote his rap album and take a relaxing year off and he didn't have to quit on the team ala Ricky Williams. Yes his suspension is w/o pay which will cost him millions, but he is already a multi-millionaire. O'neal's suspension is just outrageous. Jackson's I understand as he was throwing the most random punches. |

O'neal and Jackson should have been suspended for the rest of the season as well. Jackson was try to square off with a Piston who was trying to cool things down before things got real ugly. O'Neal sucker punched that one fan that was just getting up off the court after the hit by Artest.
I don't think Artest will have a relaxing year off. He'll be sued. I don't like lawsuits, but I think that those three should pay out the teeth for their actions. This kind of thing is gonna happen in the NFL if they keep allowing the showboating to take place. Except it will be 70k drunk NFL fans rather than 20k drunk NBA fans.
