Jacobs Down, Who Steps Up?
So Taylor Jacobs is out for at least a week
Bad news for TJ, but with the extended playing time it's a great opportunity for Dyson and McCants to step up. McCants especially. If McCants wants to be part of this team I think this is the week (including Saturday's game) that he shows it

hopefully McCants steps up, because he is on the roster borderline right now. That sucks about T.J. though.

Re: Jacobs Down, Who Steps Up?
Will Dmac PLEASE step up??? I just don't get it with that guy. I realize that not everyone can be a 110% practice guy, but come on. By all accounts he's just been half-stepping at TC.
Anyway, I hope it'll be Dmac. Maybe this will give him time on the field in preseason games, and, if he really is a "gamer" it will show. PS who is that guy who made the one handed grab in the scrimmage (or was it at fan day?)

It was a fan day, it was Jamin Elliot. I was there, and it was totally great.

Re: Jacobs Down, Who Steps Up?
McCants i hope because he is close to being executed, if he plays as bad as i hear he has been playing he might be out of a job. To much talent for that spot and to many players, who knows who will be here in the end.
i really am hoping for brown to be our surprise of the year. As long as he can catch and many have said that he was having great days at camp. he looked good at the scrimmage and there hasn't been anything lately that should make us think he can't crack top 3 if jacobs is out. Also thrash could step up to take the number 3 spot this week but i doubt it. Mcants has been sketchy Dyson has been average brown has Gibbs's backing and has done well over since OTAs Thrash is our STs guy that can play very very decently at WR lets wait till the depth chart http://www.redskins.com/team/depthchart.jsp when does that come out usually, is it during preseason or after, obviously we can infer who is where during the preseason but...... Re: Jacobs Down, Who Steps Up?
Honestly, outside of Jacobs I don't really like any of our secondary receivers.. Thrash is a good special teams player, but I don't want him on the field much as part of the offense, McCants SHOULD be the guy, but the saying in the NFL is you are who you are so I don't know why we should expect much different from him, Dyson can't stay healthy and has (by all accounts) be unimpressive thusfar and Brown is probably too little.. Jacobs needs to get and stay healthy this year.. I've said all along that he is the key to our passing game getting on track..

Re: Jacobs Down, Who Steps Up?
I think Antonio Brown will take advantage of this and continue to solidify himself.
Sounds like Jacobs shouldn't miss too much time though, so his spot as the #3 WR shouldn't be in jeopardy. I think it's time to forget about DMac and move on. I'm done with hoping he's going to somehow step up, plus his involvement on special teams is very limited compared to guys like Thrash and Brown making his stock even lower with the coaching staff. |

Hate to say I told you so, but I have said several time this offseason when folks started raving about TJ's non-contact practice showings, but I said as soon as the hitting starts TJ will get hurt. He riminds me of a less talented Michael Westbrook. At some point you can not continue to hold up a roster spot for a guy that is hurt half the time. |

Re: Jacobs Down, Who Steps Up?
To be fair this wasn't a contact related injury. This kind of thing could have happened to anyone.
TJ hasn't had much luck when it comes to injuries. He had that wacky internal injury in his rookie year, you can't really chalk that up to someone being soft or not in shape. And now he strained a toe, again I don't think you can chalk that up to him being soft. Or maybe he's been slacking on his toe curls lately, I dunno. |

Re: Jacobs Down, Who Steps Up?
Where does Antonio Brown fall on this chart? He's not at either receiver spot.

Re: Jacobs Down, Who Steps Up?
I'd still love to see Campbell move up to 2nd string by the beginning of the season.

Re: Jacobs Down, Who Steps Up?
If Campbell plays well during the preseason, I can see him pushing Brunell for the #2 spot.
I was really impressed with his poise in the scrimmage. He just looks like a natural in the pocket. |

Re: Jacobs Down, Who Steps Up?
Excellent. Good to know that we could possibly have a decent backup for once...
