Re: Pat White or Sexxy Rexy
Grossman is an adequate #2 QB. Pat White is a retread bum. It's no contest.
Rex certainly has that tendency to make bad decisions with the ball but everyone forgets those games when he turns into "Good Rex", where he avoids the turnovers and goes 19-30 for 290 yards and two TDs. He's fine in a role where he can come in relief of an injured QB. He's a disaster in a role when he has a starting job for a sustained period of time, because defenses get tape on him and take advantage of his tendencies. But as a spot starter you could do a lot worse. The good news is we can even do better than Rex as our #2. Cousins might even be a starting caliber QB right now in this league. We have a nice problem - we have multiple quality backup QBs. Let's not overthink it by even considering Pat White a possibility.

they could flip a coin for all I care, if we end up needing either one of them the odds are pretty high our season is in the toilet

Re: Pat White or Sexxy Rexy
White is a camp arm....Rex knows the Shanny playbook better than anyother player on the team.
Some might see value in White because we are running the read option game, but he ran some wild cat in Miami and found out fast that this aint West Virginia and his athleticism isn't as much at this level. Plus he isn't RGIII he doesn't have the arm, accuracy, smarts, or speed. RGIII has world class speed and even he cant out run everyone and got hit a lot. White already has had injury trouble. Our QB's will be RGIII Captain Kirk and Sexy Rexy |

Re: Pat White or Sexxy Rexy
Rex didn't take a snap last year, and I don't think he was even on the active roster most of the year. He has averages more than 1.1 interceptions per game he's played in. Sure, he's great as an experienced QB in system, but as the OP stated - in that case he could be a QB coach, and not use a roster spot. Not sure he'd be snapped up by any other team. Leftwich, Leinert, V.Young, Thigpen, T.Edwards, J.Russell, S.Rosenfels are all still available -- so not sure if anyone else would pick Rex up if we let him go..
BUT YES we're probably going to keep Rex as the safe option. But the OP asked if about what could happen if P.White looked good, whether to consider keeping him - and I think it's reasonable to say that he'd at least have a chance. Esp if Griffin is back to normal.. Heck, we took a chance on Banks for years and wasted that roster spot... |

Re: Pat White or Sexxy Rexy
Pat White is already useless. I believe he was brought in to simulate Griffin in camp while he's out, but RGIII is going to be up to full speed by then.
He'll probably be one of first cuts...I doubt he'll see a preseason snap. Rex is a far better emergency QB than White, or probably anyone else we could bring in.

Re: Pat White or Sexxy Rexy
I thought White was coming in to try and be the playmaker that Banks couldn't be, per SS back when we signed him?
I could be wrong.

Re: Pat White or Sexxy Rexy
No. I thought I had clarified what I had said before. Anyway, what I said (or at least meant to say) is that that would be the only he could make the roster. If he showed some skills-outside of QB-that would compel the coaches to keep him

Re: Pat White or Sexxy Rexy
MD is probably right, if RG3 is a full go for camp and it seems like he will be, it's hard to imagine White sticking around for too long.

Re: Pat White or Sexxy Rexy
I believe Grossman will stick around if only to continue being a mentor for RGIII. Plus Pat White was all but done with football until the Skins called. I have a hard time believing he can fix all of his issues (mainly accuracy) in time to beat out a long time vet for a roster spot.

Another issue is what system did he come from and what system was he asked to work in straight from college? Miami's system period sucked I think. I'm thinking White will do well in our system since it favors his skills which is to roll out options. |
