Re: The re-sign Orakpo thread

Did you know:
Orakpo has ZERO career sacks against Dallas.
Orakpo has 4.5 total career sacks against all NFC east teams combined.

Josh Wilson has as many career sacks against Dallas as Orakpo.
Josh Wilson has as many career sacks against the Giants as Orakpo (1)

We should be able to pay someone a lot less and get that production.

$40-50Mil would be the max I would give him.

Re: The re-sign Orakpo thread

I have a strong suspicion Orakpo could post high teen sacks in a season if he's put in the right system and coached up. IMO that means RDE in the 4-3 and an aggressive scheme and play-caller. Hell, I think even the conservative Blache would have gotten 12-14 sacks out of Rak by now.

Geez I'd love to have that defense back. Can we just please just get quality coaches this time around? It's our turn, gdamnit. It's our turn.

Take a wild guess who Rak's DC was in 2009

I knew it was Blache Matty, just saying it would have only gotten better in that defense

I can't wait to get rid of Haslett, but Blache was pretty bad in his own way.

Bad as in boring. In was a stonewall run defense and solid pass defense, but didn't create enough turnovers. He did it well in Chicago before that. In 2008 we ran the 6th best defense:

2008 Washington Redskins Statistics & Players - Pro-Football-Reference.com

Dropped to 18th the next year, but the team had given up by then.

2009 Washington Redskins Statistics & Players - Pro-Football-Reference.com

I would have loved a coaching staff of Williams HC, Blache DC and Saunders OC after Gibbs retired.

Like I say though, it's our turn to hit on the right guy(s).

Better than average, but easily frustrating. Amazingly unblockable when healthy. But plays on a defense that's been bottom quarter in the league three consecutive years.

Wouldn't call him average but he isn't as good as the NFL media folk makes him out to be in my opinion. A lot of other teams have better edge rushers.

Re: The re-sign Orakpo thread

Every top defense in the league has their stong point:

49ers: Linebackers
Panthers: Front Seven
Chiefs: Linebackers and Dontari Poe
Cardinals: That massive defensive line that keeps their LBs clean all game.
Seahawks: Legion of Boom. (I feel the loss of Browner will hurt them in the playoffs.)

We have a strength with our edge rushers in Rak and Kerrigan. We need a MLB to replace Fletch and a defensive lineman that constantly pushes the LOS back. With that it will help the secondary develop a la Carolina. There are some good up and coming prospects in the draft that I hope we take a look at. Point is we re-sign Rak and that re-build becomes a lot easier.

Redskins with Rak > Redskins without Rak.

Sign him. Put he and kerrigan in the dirt in the 4-3.. We never had the person ell for the 3-4, ever, and still don't. Please go back and let these guys do what they do best... Blast off the line and make plays every down

This I can agree with. The 3-4 was never going to reach it's full potential without a Haloti Ngata/Vince Wilfork type at nose tackle. Cofield is a good player, but not a dominant guy who eats multiple blocks and allows his ILB's to make plays running downhill. Bottom line, I don't want to see Rak lost in space chasing a TE or a RB when he should be wreaking havoc in the backfield every down.

They should be outta the Orakpo business. I agree go back to the 4-3 (maybe a hybrid) and sign a younger, cheaper, and possibly better player or two.
