Re: New Defensive Coordinator 2015

Look at John Harbaugh. He was the Special Teams coach for Philly for 9 years. Looking at this link his special teams never really lite it up.

FOOTBALL OUTSIDERS: Innovative Statistics, Intelligent Analysis | 2005 SPECIAL TEAMS RATINGS

I think he is a pretty good HC now.

Maybe Barry has learn stuff from his last go around as DC, IDK.

None of us sat in on these interviews. Kind of hard to decide a hire when you didn't hear the interview.

Any who welcome aboard Joe, you got a lot of work to do, I wish you the best.

It's more good ole boy network but this is how this organization operates. I would've preferred that they went outside the box and taken Eric Mangini. He's probably too much of a threat to Gruden though.

Yes, we're the only team that does this in the NFL.

Re: New Defensive Coordinator 2015

I work in recruiting...interview people all day long.
Anyone can interview well for a few hours...but I will take a track record 9 times out of 10. Energy?....are you kidding me?...give Wade Phillips or whoever "doesn't have energy" a cup of coffee!....i don't care. Raheem Morris has a ton of energy...but his small responsibility has SUCKED...energy does not win games....schemes, play calling and players win games. Here's an interesting point...if Barry is so good....why didn't anyone else interview him?....kinda reminds me of a Zorn hire again...UGH.
I hate watching the stupid moves this team makes....after one of the best ever too....another part of my Redskin heart is dying again.
I just hope it isn't true....why not interview the successful guys?...what is the rush?
Or are they setting up Gruden for complete failure to dump the whole coaching staff?...I have no idea....I hate to say it....Haslett is better (eeeww)

Dear Redskins, if the top two candidates you come up with for defensive coordinator are Joe Barry and Raheem Morris, you're doing it wrong
Sad just how much that rings true.

Re: New Defensive Coordinator 2015

I admit not knowing much about the guy until his name first popped up. Detroit was a disaster, not sure how much blame you can attach to anyone there at that time not named Millen.

Yup. It's not like they had a DL anchored by Suh and his buddies.

From Pro Football Reference here are the guys from Detroit's 0-16 squad:

Paris Lenon, Age: 31, Pos: MLB, Games: 16, Sacks: 1.5, Int.: 0, Tackles/Assists: 81/40.

Ernie Sims, Age: 24, Pos: RLB, Games: 16, Sacks: 1.0, Int.: 0, Tackles/Assists: 71/42.

Daniel Bullocks, Age: 25, Pos: SS, Games: 16, Sacks: 0, Int.: 0, Tackles/Assists: 60/30.

Kalvin Pearson, Age: 30, Pos: FS, Games: 16, Sacks: 1, Int.: 0, Tackles/Assists: 65/18.

Leigh Bodden, Age: 27, Pos: RCB, Games: 16, Sacks: 0, Int.: 0, Tackles/Assists: 61/12.

Ryan Nece, Age: 27, Pos: LLB, Games: 16, Sacks: 1.5, Int.: 1, Tackles/Assists: 45/23.

So three of your top six tacklers are DB's. Not a ringing endorsement of the talent level. The rest of the leaders on defense:

Dwight Smith: 33, SS
Dewayne White: 29, RDE, T/A: 28/10
Alex Lewis: 27, LB, 32/9
Cory Redding: 28, RDT, 31/7
Travis Fisher: 29, RCB, 30/7
Shaun Cody: 25, RDT, 25/11
Corey Smith: 29, DE, 25/5
Chartric Darby: 33, NT, 23/9
Jared DeVries: 32, LDE, 21/8
Brian Kelly: 32, LCB, 23/392
Cliff Avril: 22, DE, 17/5

Other than Avril (in his rookie year) and Sims, I hadn't heard of any of these guys. Seven years from now, others will probably say the same for most of our 2013-14 defense.

Re: New Defensive Coordinator 2015

But ... from another perspective:

Quote:
I think it is far too early to tell whether or not this is a good choice. It follows the NFL pattern of hiring people you know, something the Redskins — and every other team — do regularly. What I will say is that sometimes recycling the big names does not work out. It certainly has not worked out for the Skins in the past. Hiring a newer guy, one with plenty of experience, but not enough success to be fat and happy, can work out, too.
Report: Redskins to hire Joe Barry as Defensive Coordinator | DC Pro Sports Report

I make no bones about it - I wanted Phillips. As a DC, and IMHO, the guy had the best resume out there - including Ryan. I am disappointed b/c it appears he won't be the DC.

Re: New Defensive Coordinator 2015

This just scream out one of 2 things to me.
1. No one of any quality wanted the job.
2. The Redskins continue to value relationships over ability.

I wonder...if this is who they thought they would end up hiring, if they would have rethought about firing Haslett. I also wonder if the decision was Gruden's according to what our new GM said at his press conference.
