No doubt we need to get younger on the DL and this is a good draft for that....but I would hope we don't target a position over taking the BPA. From a distance it looks like DL could be the pick in the first round but at pick 21 another player/position could easily be the BPA.

Count on paea, Ricky Jean and Baker back. That's really it. I gotta feeling hatcher is gonna retire or cut at his salary. What I read with keim, is that pot roast most likely will not be back. I'd like to see Trent Murphy transition to end. My gut feeling is we go dline first.
I have no idea what they'll do, I know what I think they should do and for me I would hate to see Hatcher and Knighton go.

I have a hard time seeing Murphy as a DE in the base front....in a 4 man line?Maybe, but I can't see him bulking up enough to be a 34 base DE.

Right now with first round ranking:

1. Dline
2. ILB
3. CB

That's how Scott probably looking.
I don't think Scott looks at the draft based on positional need at all. That doesn't seem to be his MO at all. Scott has professed to be a Best Player Available advocate.

Now maybe overall he ranks positional needs but I don't think he uses positional need rankings to guide his drafting in the 1st round or any round really. I think he takes the BPA.

But on that note if I had grade the defensive units........

CB=D
S=D
ILB=D
DL=C+ (would be a B if they weren't so old)
OLB=B

Thanks for posting the article.

There are a lot of talented players on that list. I could envision the Skins picking up one of them on a cap-friendly short term contract. If they do, I'd prefer someone who also plays ST.

The Bears have informed Matt Forte that they will not be offering him a contract. Some NFL GM's have said they think his next contract will be in the $4MM/Yr. range. If he can be signed to a cap-friendly contract, I think he might be a very good fit for the Skins. I would expect him to share the workload with Jones.

I like Forte, I just don't see him coming here. RB is just not a money spot any more. If we were one RB away, yes, I would be open to spending some cap space for him. Right now, better to draft and develop a RB who fits.

With Knighton, the hole is dug b/c he is a free agent. Just a matter if we bring him or someone else back.

I would be shopping Murphy hard for a trade right now.
He just doesnt seem to fit anywhere on this team.

Re: Better days ahead. (Off season part 1 thread)

Per nfltraderumors.com:

"Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk writes that the prospect looms of the Rams possibly signing QB Robert Griffin III once the Redskins cut him loose in the coming weeks."

Wouldn't that be a kick in the teeth? The final indignity of that unfortunate trade.

"John Keim of ESPN writes that Redskins GM Scot McCloughan will remain consistent with his approach towards the team’s roster this offseason. According to Keim, the Redskins want to get younger on their defensive line and find another inside linebacker. Washington could use more depth at cornerback, safety, running back and tight end."

Finding D-Line help in this draft should be easy. This draft is as loaded as I can remember with good D-line prospects. I think we can get two good D-line prospects if we want two of them.

At ILB, one of Jaylon Smith, Reggie Ragland, Kentrell Brothers and Scooby Wright should be available to us.

I think we could probably find good players at CB, WR, RB, and TE in this draft, as well.

Well, we had 2012. The Rams haven't even sniffed success since the trade. Though I guess one could argue we would have been better off last year if we had not done the trade....

Scooby Wright is a stud and for some reason appears to only be considered mid-round prospect by the draft media. There are some mid round ILB that could help this defense.

I could really care less where RGIII ends up. Best of luck to him but it's over here.

Seriously. You would think with the success we had last year (albeit small, but still above where everyone thought we would be) people would just forget about it. Who care where he goes, as long as he's not wasting a roster spot here? And of course as long as he doesn't go to a rival and somehow figure it out of course, as unlikely as that might be. But the Rams? Really who cares.

I'd be happy to forget about it as long as Dan Snyder would forget about making such a risky trade ever again. I would also appreciate it if Snyder would resist the urge to pay some fat, lazy, entitled, attitude case $100MM ever again.

I'm not too bitter. I'm just too old for this franchise to take another wrong turn.

I appreciate the direness of your situation, however there's no way to be conclusive that Dan Snyder is who we think he is. At least we can take solace in the fact Kirk Cousins appears to be the opposite of fat, lazy, entitled, etc. so that money should be well spent.
