Re: Skins/49ers post game

Love the celebration, but I'm sure the NFL won't lol.

S/N this is something we don't normally see or think about but watching Montae Nicholson after Garcon trucked him makes me think we should start seeing a penalty for leading with the crown, and it shouldn't matter whether it's offense or defense. Look at Nicholson twitching on the ground, he might actually be having a seizure as a result of that hit. Watching the helmet pop off the head gives me an idea of how hard of a collision that was. Very dangerous for both players. And I'm not just saying this because that's a Redskin twitching on the ground, those are the types of hits that need to be taken out of the game.

The leading-with-the-crown-of-your-helmet rule is a much more controversial new rule. Both offensive and defensive players who lead with the top of the helmet will be flagged 15 yards in certain, specific circumstances. Should both players be flagged, the penalties will offset and the teams will replay the down.
"It is a foul if a runner or tackler initiates forcible contact by delivering a blow with the top/crown of his helmet against an opponent when both players are clearly outside the tackle box (an area extending from tackle to tackle and from three yards beyond the line of scrimmage to the offensive team's end line)," the new rule -- Rule 12, Section 2, Article 8 -- reads. "Incidental contact by the helmet of a runner or tackler against an opponent shall not be a foul."

I dont think garcon really lead with the crown of his helmet. Seems like Nicholson came in with his head lower.

Really hard to watch. A couple plays a game it makes me feel uncomfortable.

----------------------

Cut blocks down field. I thought they eliminated low/cut blocks outside the box and down field but I looked up the rule and didnt see anything. That fucking Niner O lineman just pussy blocked Breeland's knees for no reason.

Secondary is spread way to thin w injuries, D needs to play soft and off.

- I'm pretty sure the rule is outside the box, a low block is only legal if made clearly in front of the defender (not from the side) , and in the direction of the play.

At least that is the way we're told to apply the rule in France, where we play with NCAA rules.

Both conditions are met on the play Breeland gets injured on. So to me it's cheap but legal.

- On the other hand, the fact that Nicholson was allowed back into the game amazes me... Makes you wonder about the quality of the concussion protocol...

"Are you concussed? -No Auntie I'm fine. I like puppies. -Ok he's fine send him back there"...

Re: Skins/49ers post game

How about props for Ryan Grant? 3 catches (I think all for first downs) and in traffic. He had more yards than Pryor and Doctson combined.

So Pryor will have a lot fewer yards with us than as a receiver for the Browns last year. Crazy. Whatever wishful thinking that he and Doctson would make up for Garçon and DJax should be out the window by now. Teams don't really fear our WRs and with reason.

Re: Skins/49ers post game

Special teams was the biggest con for me yesterday. the missed extra point, poor tackling and even Tress let us down with his punting, especially that 4th qtr one where he kicked it into the end zone.

Otherwise a win is a win. Lot of injuries and SF has been in all their games this year, we could have easily lost. Good teams find ways to win.

Not as mad as most considering we were down to like our fifth string corners. Just NEED to get healthy. Does anyone know anything about Breeland?

I read a quote where he said he is not as worried now as he was on the field. Believed to be an MCL sprain, MRI monday to determine severity. He had a prior MCL injury.

They need to cut cut blocking all together. That and pushing guys onto/over piles after the play is dead.
---------------------------------------
Both Allen and Breeland have been crucial to the success and vast improvement of the defense, with the rookie defensive end leading the d-line in snaps and Breeland playing the best football of his career.

Worryingly for the Redskins, Allen was seen leaving the locker room in a walking boot. The first-round pick was quickly ruled out upon exiting the game after heading back for x-rays.

Per Tandler:

Someone’s a bit salty.

It clearly was a pick play but they usually don’t call it unless the ball goes to the receiver who was freed.

PG says:
I’m going to just leave this here. They said it was Offense of Pass Interference. @ Washington,… instagram.com/p/BaSRMLCjPyh/

Yeah this. Almost.

That call was so bad. SO BAD. It handed SF a TD and instead it should have been our ball. Completely changed the game.

I was so angry after that one that I almost couldn't enjoy the win. It enraged me so bad, and as the 49ers kept creeping back in the game all I could think was if we lose this game because of that call I'm going to kill something.

Re: Skins/49ers post game

Anyone worried our offense hasnt really jelled consistently yet? Cousins went 25/37, 330 yds, 3 tds 1 int but that underneath stuff wont be there if that becomes our staple and teams game plan for it. Worked yesterday and that could have been a one time game plan.

Long range passing attack - not really there like years past. D jax factor? Just need to be patient and let Cousins-Crowder-Pryor figure it out?

Running game - rams game seems like an exception, not the rule. CT averaged 2.1 yds on 16 carries, Perrine 2.6 on 9 carries. Maybe SF has a solid run D, after yesterday they allow the 5th fewest yds per carry.

We are finding ways to win games.

I just really wish the down field passing attack would be hitting more than they are.
------

edit - just saw a slow mo reply of the garcon-Nicholson hit. Garcon definitely lowered his crown. Text book lowering crown. I was wrong on that.

Re: Skins/49ers post game

Like that our D starts games fired up and focused. But we seem to pay for that with slack or average play later in games that lets opponents back in. Does the amphetamine wear off?

Needed more of a killer instinct from Gruden on last offensive series. Show KC that you trust him to bootleg or option, that you can spread and let CT to find a hole for 6 yards. That ends the game.

On teams, does anyone find it odd that we were never in position to return a punt? Always a fair catch (smartly), but the first guy always gets to Crowder just as he's catching. (I know, at least he's catching.) One 18 yard return per game is all I'm asking for.

These knee and head shots get harder to watch every year.
