Re: Coronavirus (sports edition) thread

There was a point in time when a choice was just a choice - not too damn long ago either. Now it's entitlement? Guess we'll be calling it privelege before too long...

This is still America right?

Get the vaccine if you want it. Don't get the vaccine if you don't want it. Don't shame anyone else for making a decision opposite of yours. You're not "right". You just made a different choice.

Re: Coronavirus (sports edition) thread

Apologies, I will concede that "entitlement" is somewhat of a mischaracterization, I was not at my best when I wrote that post. Though I did preface the statement with "from my perspective", which was from a splitting headache at the time.

There is obviously a deeper philosophical discussion that could be had (not here) about "free choice" and how individual choice effects the rest of society and what personal liberties are sacrificed to maintain that society.

Questioning is always good, you should never stop questioning the status quo.

Re: Coronavirus (sports edition) thread

Apologies to everyone for being far too political in a football thread.

Bottom line is if the NFL follows through on "forfeiting" games and salaries then with five division games in a row at the end of the season it could well determine who goes to the playoffs. Especially as an "outbreak" could well cover two games. The NFL has done this to cause peer pressure in the lockerroom where normally each guys business is his own, this I don't agree with. Could cause divisions if a team misses tge playoffs as a result

Youre good Edmund. Impossible to talk covid and sports without politics being involved. Dont feel like you need to apologize to the anti-mask anti-vax crowd.

They're a strange bunch.

Thanks, was apologizing in general for veering off of football, I know it annoys many, including myself, when that happens, occasionally though you get caught up in rant mode

NO, the NFL did this because there is no room to reschedule games.
Stop trying to deflect the blame from the players.
If you infect your team, you're an asshole!

I guarantee you Haskins is going to take down the Steelers with Super Stripper Covid. Too bad he isn't a Cowboy.

Yes you can make that call but it comes at a price and that price might be your job or the lives of family ,friends or yourself.

Thank you, Chief! I was on a basketball message board, and there's a thread (of course) related to the vaccine. I and another poster was ridiculed by three or four other posters because we've chosen not to get the vaccine.

I believed I mentioned this here previously, but I had Covid in March of 2020. I only endured rather mild symptoms and was back to normal in a matter of days.

I know this dude who is still dealing with issues from the vaccine weeks after it was administered. I also have this peculiar suspicion that the vaccine played a major role in the recent premature passing of a lady who I had the pleasure of knowing since the age of 4.

It's my right to not take it as it's the right for others to take it. No need for the ridiculing and ostracizing. Keep it movin'!

You do realize that you and 2 people you know isn't a good cross section for the spread and total effect of a worldwide contagion, right? I believe I had it back in Feb of 2020....and it was very mild. Everyone at my job did. Fast forward to valentines day 2021, and my gf got it...she was almost hospitalized. Very very scary to see. I stayed with her the whole time in close contact, and I never tested positive. Some people have no symptoms, some people die. I'm not throwing shade at anyone not getting the vaccine....but let's not act like this thing isn't fucking some people up really badly. Cause it is. And I'm not talking about the (probably) inflated numbers that are/were released after everything was politicized and monitized....but real world shit........this thing is real, and has hurt a lot of people of all ages and demographics.

Obviously, you missed my point, which I'll touch on shortly. I mentioned those two people to shed a bit of light on the vaccine; not to deter or throw any shade. I'm also very aware of what Covid has done to people and their families (regardless of the exaggerated numbers).

My main point was I've noticed the vaccinated are the main people who are ridiculing and ostracizing the non-vaccinated. Quite frankly, we don't know the long-term effects of this trial/emergency vaccine. So, I feel myself and others, who do not want to take the jab, should have the right not to do so without worrying about losing our jobs and being badgered by the vaccinated.

In bold this is the correct take. And I’ll say for those who make the same argument against the vaccine, I think it’s the most reasonable.

On the other side, the numbers do speak for themselves. Vaccines work. And when you see an overwhelming number of hospitalizations and death from the variant on those unvaccinated…I don’t feel anger towards those people but empathy. I don’t want to see fellow citizens die. Just want to end with this, IMO if you are over 50, the risk posed by covid is much greater than a vaccine
