Either way, that issue is over and done for me. Time to move forward.

I think Commanders makes the most sense. It can tie into the military as well as a nod to politics in DC. It's generic and not offensive even with the most magical of thinking.
AMEN! I'm tired of the whining about the old name. I have it tattooed into my arm for Christ's sake and I'm ready to move on!

Nobody is whining about anything. He implied Redhawks of all things might be construed as racist. I simply offered a polite response.

It is rather hard to discuss our impending new name without occasionally referencing the old one. That does not amount to whining.

As for your arm, best get that removed if you really are serious about moving on.

I'm just trying to think from the team's perspective and why they would want to avoid putting red in the name again. I think they want to start fresh and not give anyone the chance to misconstrue the name again. They're keeping the colors, so that's the tie to the past. The use and meaning of words change over time, what's harmless today might not be down the road. Redtails sounds harmless enough today, who knows down the line. I know it sounds crazy but I'd guarantee that's part of their thinking.

Some of us, well probably only myself it seems, are not as sanguine.

You may be right about their thinking, but it seems to me that people need to start behaving like adults again. Were someone to state that Redhawks or even Redtails of all things was racist, then that would be time for Snyder or anyone else including you and I to stand up and tell the malcontent to grow up and cease the delusional thinking.

I am warming to the idea of Red Scare, because these last few years have an eerie similarity.

Pigskins would have been a good name too.

Washington Pigskins.

Everyone knows that "Redtails" is a reference to the Tuskegee Airmen and not an actual bird right? I've seen some comments to that effect in this thread.

I know you know but I seen others confusing the two, or me for that matter

Also does anyone really think NFL properties would approve "Redhawks" when they already have a "Seahawks"?

Probably not, but the main reason is the name is already in use by several other teams

Many also use Rams, Eagles, Jets, and Cardinals. A lot used Redskins. Several still do.

And if you watch next Monday's championship, you might note that the Georgia Bulldog "G" bears a striking resemblance to that in use by Green Bay.

A friend of mine is fond of saying, If you think of it, it's been done.

Hmmm.... Let's see. Red, Sea, Red, Sea, Sea, Red, Red & Sea, Redhawks, Seahawks.....

Yea I am completely befuddled. They are like mirror images of one another. Worse than There and Their.

It's about branding and individual team identity to sell merch which is why it wouldn't work.
