Re: Fans Calling out Peter King and the media

The media always seems to dismiss that their biased opinions and comments exist, even though most of the nfl/sportswriters attempt to ridicule the redskins whenever they get a chance. The redskins have been easy targets since Dan Snyder took over because he was young and inexperienced and also the brash way he did business. They have been targeted also because of jealousy because of the past success the redskins have had in winning 3 superbowls and numerous playoff/championships - and also the jealousy of the owner's money and his willingness to spend.

The only things that will stop them is: the redskins winning the superbowl and me,as a fan, ignoring any ridiculous comments that are made about the redskins until and after they win the superbowl. I am going to start focusing on what is good about the redskins, instead of letting the writers influence me to thinking that the redskins are and will never amount to anything ever again. Because that's what they're trying to do individually - get us to focus on all the redskins' negative stuff... ie - Arrington drama, Brunnel/offense fading down the stretch, Sean Taylor's behavior and legal problems, (always future) cap problems, only one productive wr, not enough draft picks, and on and on and on. This past successful season of (just to mention a few general ones) greatly improving the offense, continuing to be defensively successful, winning 10 regular season games, winning the last 5 games, going to playoffs and winning a game and doing well in the playoffs is dismissed by the media and a negative is replaced in it's place - all of them.

I don't know about all of you, but I'm literally sick of this and I'm going to stop reading certain reporters' pieces because of the negative spin of everything redskins.

Here's a list I am starting for myself to boycott:
Len Pasquarelli
Tom Jackson
Sean Salisbury
Prisco

I highly doubt the critics would be silenced if the Skins were to win it all. All we would hear is cries of how the Skins "bought" a Super Bowl.

Yes, I agree - that's why I wrote I am "ignoring any ridiculous comments that are made about the redskins until and AFTER they win the superbowl"

i agree and that would be a shame. its all about talent, whether its bought or home grown. its all about having the intelligence, resources or draft-wise to be able to make a winner. "buying" a good FA is sometimes just slightly more intuitive than drafting a "sure thing".

Re: Fans Calling out Peter King and the media

i doubt the boycott is going to change their ways.

I'm really surprised after all these years people still get pissed off whenever they read something new bashing the skins. Its Q rating. Like with Cossell, it doesn't matter if you like them or hate them, just as logn as you're not indifferent you'll read to see what they say, and nothing changes.

You're a better man than me- everytime I read or watch a report (that usually is a major national report or piece) and at the end they add something like or start off with something that tries to ridicule the redskins - it makes my blood boil and I say f**k you outloud. It just gets to a point when enough is enough (after all these years) and especially after last year's success and looking forward to the good things this upcoming season.

And I don't know about all of you, but I couldn't even enjoy the playoff victory over Tampa Bay. All they talked about was the redskins setting a record for least offensive production in a playoff win - if they liked the redskins and wanted to put a positive spin on it, they could have focused on the fact that this happened and still managed to win the game because of the defense and the ability to make big plays when it counted.

Re: Fans Calling out Peter King and the media

yeah i dont give a crap. i mean i talk about it for having the sake of something to talk about but i guarantee you if the skins win the super bowl and they talk about how they "bought" it rather than making smart personnel moves i wont be able to hear or care about it due to the noise of my super bowl party.

Re: Fans Calling out Peter King and the media

I dont mean to pile on here...but Arrington wasnt released for salary cap reasons. We could easily have kept him, maybe not signed Archuleta or something, who knows...but its not like we HAD to release him. He makes it sound like there was this great salary cap purge when Cory Raymer had a freakin million dollar salary!

Yeah, it's like cutting Cory Raymer really hurt us - when the redskins can probably draft or pickup someone with greater value easily. This is one of the most weakest arguments out there right now and for a professional writer, at that. Come on, he's really grasping for straws ... or whatever the expression is

Re: Fans Calling out Peter King and the media

You know its getting a bit re-diculous(schneed10 is that spelled right?just kidding with ya!!) having to explain or defend our spending of free agents. Now not all of us actually agree with the free spending, but over the last year we have come away with some quality players. Now, we have lost a couple as well because of money being less abundant a following year, but who the hell cares. Joe had to defend our spending at the latest news conference when we introduced Carter. This is getting a bit out of control. Why keep going after the guy who has created the richest franchise in all of sports, bar none!! Why go after a guy that gives all of his coaches what the WANT, or think will get them to the next level. Why go after a guy who buys his boy hood team, tries to give the fans and community a superbowl every single year, a guy who works around the clock trying to do what is best for the Redskins. I might now agree with everything Danny does, but to question why he does this or how he does that is getting a bit old. Why not bitch about people who only care about what goes in their pockets instead of what goes on the field. There are more of those idiots than there are Dannys. I kinda wish there wasn't a salary cap, Danny would buy everyone and god willing win a superbowl every year or two. I am just sick of these idiots dogging my boys. get a freakin life. below is the article where Joe defends our spending.

Joe Gibbs defended the Washington Redskins' aggressive approach to free agency on Wednesday, dismissing any implication that the team is somehow circumventing the NFL's salary cap.
"The thing I want to emphasize is this: We haven't done one thing that anybody else can't do," the Redskins' Hall of Fame coach said following a news conference to introduce free agent signing Andre Carter. "We have certain rules in the league. Here's the cap, here's the numbers, here's what you can spend, so everybody in the league can do what we're doing, it's just that they choose not to, many of them."

Despite starting the month some $13 million over the $102 million cap that was set following negotiations for a new collective bargaining agreement, the Redskins have once again been one of March's busiest teams.

Since Saturday, they have traded for San Francisco receiver Brandon Lloyd and signed five unrestricted free agents: receiver Antwaan Randle El, safety Adam Archuleta, tight end Christian Fauria, backup quarterback Todd Collins and Carter. Randle El and Archuleta alone were given contracts with a combined $21.5 million in guaranteed money.

"Each team's a little different, how they want to build a team. ... Certainly Pittsburgh is a scheme that works, they won a Super Bowl," Gibbs said. "If you watch their team, there are a lot of draft choices, they're real conscious about that. It remains to be seen how we'll end up doing, but we've chosen to be more aggressive in free agency."

The Redskins put themselves under the cap by cutting five expendable players on the eve of free agency, and they also saved $4.4 million in the deal that made linebacker LaVar Arrington a free agent. Since then, they've been cutting cap dollars by renegotiating contracts with returning veterans, giving the players upfront bonuses that can be prorated for salary cap purposes.

Owner Dan Snyder's overspending in 2000 caused then-coach Marty Schottenheimer to make drastic cuts in 2001, but Snyder's strategy since then has been to map out a cap strategy using what Gibbs said were "three- to four-year spreadsheets." The goal is to shift cap money around in a coherent manner that keeps the team from being forced to part with players it wants to keep.

It hasn't worked perfectly -- coveted linebacker Antonio Pierce left for the New York Giants last year -- but Gibbs' free agency upgrades helped get the Redskins into the playoffs last year, and the overhaul continues. Only five projected 2006 starters were with the team before Gibbs arrived in January 2004.

The best free agent additions under Gibbs have been linebacker Marcus Washington, cornerback Shawn Springs, defensive tackle Cornelius Griffin and defensive end Phillip Daniels.

"People say, 'Why would you go get the free agents?'" Gibbs said. "Well, look at the guys we wouldn't have on our football team."

The Redskins are able to afford huge signing bonuses because Snyder's marketing savvy has helped make the team one of the most profitable in sports, but Gibbs downplayed the connection between Snyder's fortune and the team's free agency haul.

"The biggest misrepresentation there is that [it's because] Dan's got a lot of money. That's not it," Gibbs said. "We've got a rule. Believe me, if we had no rules, Dan would spend some money."
