Re: First Ballot Hall of Famers

Hmm.

First ballot is a lofty achievement.

Favre
Martin
Faulk
Manning
Brady
Lewis
Strahan
Rodney Harrison
Tony Gonzalez
Adam Vinatieri (I wouldn't vote him in. But Peter King would.)
Simeon Rice
Derrick Brooks
Brian Urlacher
John Lynch
Will Shields
Walter Jones
Torry Holt

I may have missed/stretched a few, but thats my list.

The only one here I have a problem with is Rice. I can't say he's a first ballot guy, he'll probably crack the top 10 for all-time sacks, but even then he doesn't strike me as a first ballot player.

Off the top of my head I'd say:

Brett Favre
Peyton Manning
Tom Brady (wavered a lot on Brady and Manning)
Ray Lewis
Marvin Harrison

I know there must be more. What do you guys think?
Brett Favre
Peyton Manning
Tom Brady
Ray Lewis
Marvin Harrison

I would say these guys above are all first ballot locks.

I would also add Faulk, Martin, and Bettis. Not sure if they all will go first ballot, but if I was voting I would put them in.

bledsoe as a first ballot? i don't think so. he has numbers but he's not a winner or even great. he's just above average and had good luck staying healthy enough to keep playing.

roaf and shields... if 11 time pro bowlers don't get in, then who does?

brady
manning (if he wins one)
lewis
gates
moss (randy - if he can get back on track)

I agree with you but Carson was a 9 time Pro Bowler that had to wait.

The Hall doesn't typically jump to vote in OL very quickly, so it should be interesting to see what will happen with guys like Roaf and Shields who are very deserving.

Gates probably will be a HOFer one day, but if his career ended today with only 3 yrs in the NFL, would he really be first ballot? I don't think so.

So you think that Gates is closer to the Hall than Randy Moss??? Come on now.

The criteria was if their careers ended today. I think; wait a minute, I know that this has been overlooked.

There are only a handful of players who would make it first ballot if their career ended today. I think the first list + M. Faulk + Larry Allen - Manning (I don't think that Brady and Manning can be first ballot. Brady has the gold and Manning does not have the numbers yet.) is the most reasonable that I have seen.

Sapp is the most overrated player in NFL history. Lynch is a close second.

Re: First Ballot Hall of Famers

Gates definitely has a long way to go.

P. Manning will get in regardless of if he wins a Super Bowl, if he continues to put up the crazy numbers which I'm sure he will.
