Cooley is now a traditional TE. What are you expecting? Saunders does not run a H-back. Think first.....

Re: Cooley needs to focus

Cooley just hasn't had many plays go his way over the past couple weeks. It definately looks like he is a little bit frustrated as he plays. He dropped an easy one and throughout the during the weeks before the season we saw cooley drop some balls at camp and at the scrimmage. Cooley needs to do what cooley does.

Where are the tight ends that were signed in the off season?

A little more pass protection make help!

Brunell is checking down too quickly, and with Cooley running deeper routes, Brunell is checking down to Betts and Sellers.

Good point Bohnzie. I realized that the WRs weren't getting many looks because of this but for some reason I guess I didn't apply it to Cooley. Makes sense though.
PS- Saw Mickey at Unionjacks on Saturday. Good times.

If you are going to put 4 wideouts in the formation why Cooley?

We have Lolyd, Randel-El, Moss and Patton.

Seem to make sense to check down to a wideout then a H-back and leave the Running back in to pass protect.

How about a two step drop to a quick hitter?

Timming routes?

Non of this has happened.

Bingo!

Cooley has never had a problem focusing before, now all of a sudden Saunders has him running deeper routes, so Brunell who's scared to hold the ball more than 2 seconds has Cooley taking the blame for not focusing? It just keeps getting better. I am curious what are the signs that he's not focused? Should he use telecanetic powers to force Brunell to stand in the pocket and deliver the ball downfield? Why someone would question Cooley is beyond me, he's a proven gamer, unlike Brunell our little china doll.

Deeper routes?

All I've seen him doing so far is blocking.

As for Brunell, some would argue that he's a bit more proven than Cooley if you compared their careers, in fact it's not even a fair comparison. But oh well, keep on hating.

Who threw Cooley the ball all last year to make him so proven?

And keep drinking that Brunell coolaid.

Pay attention, he was thrown the ball last year because he ran shorter routes, which is why he's not seeing it this year, that is what some of us are saying. If he continued to run little 5 yard hitches he would probably be leading the league in catches right now. I don't know if you paid attention on sunday but Brunell completed 22 passes in a row and probably had about 75 yards before YAC. Saunders called a masterful game, he was able to get by with a passing game that was nothing more than an extention of a handoff.

Cooley hasn't had any opportunities. He's fine. Our offense is horrible. Lloyd, Moss, and Randel El haven't done much either b/c we are bad as a group now.

Re: Cooley needs to focus

You put Cooley in that situation because it helps create mismatches. Why do guys like Gates, Gonzales, Heap do the same thing? Plus, Cooley can block, moreso than a 4th receiver.

However, I never implied that being a 4 receiver set. If you watch the routes he's running, he's going 5, 10, 15 yards deep, as opposed to short hitches that the RB crew (Betts/Duckett/Sellars) are running out of the backfield.

Re: Cooley needs to focus

most of it comes down to brunell hop stepping in the pocket scared and the O'line is garbage. im not sure if its the schemes or our guys blow. did you guys see the play when Ware was following cooley in motion and then dropped in a three point stance and got str8 to brunell...? he went in his stance right in front of samuels and samuels just didnt care... let him go right by. My take is brunell shouldnt be running this offense and our O'line needs to be remodeled. we need a new LT, LG, and C.
Brunell on the other hand, did anyone see him rollout to his left and skipped a pass to Lloyd when he was wide open??? it was like a 8 yard route and he threw it 6 1/2 yards... horrible
