Well, there's talk that Lance Briggs may not be out of the question just yet.

Even so, the linebackers are set this year with Washington, Fletcher, and McIntosh/Marshall. The problems along the D-line far outweigh the need for a long-term project to replace London Fletcher.

Part of the reason that I want to draft a stud d-lineman (like I hope Okoye will be) is that it will take some of the pressure off of Carter and he'll be a more effective pass rusher. He started to look really good at the end of the season and I don't see any reason that he he can't be even better this year; especially if he has some help right next to him.

I heard Charles Mann was at Redskins Park for a workout yesterday...

I think Okoye could be a DE/DT tweener if we draft him. He's got good burst and is very quick for his 298lb frame. Man I hope we land him.

Okoye's frame reminds me more of a DE than a DL, but he's only 19 and hasn't "filled out" all the way yet. I don't care where we put him, I firmly believe Okoye is one of those special picks that you'll look back and go DAMN IT if you don't draft him.

Re: What are we going to do at DE?

There is absolutely NO DOUBT that we need a DE in the draft. Taking Landry is DUMB because we don't need a safety as bad as we need DL help. The ultimate scenario is if we can trade down and get Okoye at 9 or so, then pick up a DE with the pick we get from that deal.
If we do not trade down, I feel we will still have at least 1 hole to fill. DE is incredibly weak with only Carter being a viable option. He was only OK last year, so not even Carter is entrenched in this position...it needs help bad.

I'm hoping we pick up one of my HOkies in the later rounds - Noland Burchette. He's a little small - 6'2, 260 - but is a disciplined DE that could earn some time as a pass rushing right de.

Any help is good help. Wynn and Daniels are not cutting it.

yeah, they're old but they're also both team leaders. I hope we can keep both of them 1 more year, then let them bow out gracefully.

I think both of them can contribute in limited minutes. Wynn is solely a run stopper, but Daniels is a good every down DE when healthy. I like the idea of playing Daniels at DT, but only on passing downs.
Whatever we do, I expect to see a lot of rotations & different packages to keep guys fresh & max. each one's strength.

Team leaders? In what respect? Or do you mean clubhouse leaders?

JLC said both are vital to team chemistry. Both often serve as spokesmen for the players along w/Portis, e.g. I believe Daniels spoke to Gibbs about players working out on their own this offseason.

Agreed.......And if we have to rely on those two for sixteen games, I can imagine what the game day thread is going to look like. Both these guys are ready for SS, and couldn't mount a pass rush if there were no line in front of them. That's why I find it hard to believe there's no one in this draft good enough to start ahead of either of these guys. Just goes to show the misguided loyalty Gibbs & Co, has for these old guys.

Man you guys are crazy, i cant tell if you are joking or not. Yes we havent had solid qb play recently, but as I recall we have a guy who looks like he will be solid in Jason Campbell. If Quinn dropped to us and we took him, i might quit being a redskins fan because that would be one of the dumbest moves. Quinn would be more of a project than Campbell due to the fact that he will be a rookie. We also have a horrible defense that we need to adress in the draft.
