Just to throw a curve into this mishuggah situation, maybe Schwartz is Jewish, and thereby fits the Rooney rule as a minority. We are but 2% of the population, you know. And god knows, there have been few enough of us as head coaches in the NFL--Marv Levy comes to mind. But maybe Schwartz is not Jewish.

Re: May the Schwartz be with you?

titans defense this year is overrated and solely dependent on Hynesworths play, without him the titans defense is not better the GW's defense. yes they came from the same titans great superbowl run defense, but GW is more familiar here, with player's support and has learned from Gibb's and from his previous mistake as a HC of the Bills. Im still for GW. please Mr. snyder.

Re: May the Schwartz be with you?

Perhaps Gibbs is not endorsing GW as head coach. Knowing how much Danny respects Gibbs you would have to think that Gibbs and Dan have discussed the possibility of GW as head coach behind closed doors. Although Gibbs would not say anything publicly he would surely give Dan his true feelings about GW behind closed doors. Maybe Gibbs thinks GW is just a DC and not the best choice as HC. I firmly believe that if Gibbs 100% endorced GW as his successor that he would be the lead candidate without question.

Re: May the Schwartz be with you?

I think this is all smoke and mirrors. They know it's going to be Gregg and all the coaches know it's going to be Gregg, but they aren't letting anyone on. I'm hoping that Joe discussed this with Dan during that conversation that lasted to 2 in the morning. I'm hoping that Joe and Dan talked to the coaches and let them know what was going to happen, or maybe no one knows but Gregg, Joe, and Dan. That they know Gregg is getting it but are pretty much saying to the media, "I'm not gonna tell, your feet smell, you ask me again and you can go to hell"

I'm hoping that's the way it's going to go. That Gregg will be named coach, but not until everyone proclaims that The Danny is going to sign whatever coach they want to say he will. Maybe Dan learned from Joe. Let's hope for our sakes.

Good post. i was thinking of starting a thread to pose the question: What does the Danny have to gain by fooling everyone & prolonging this? I thought that maybe he's trying to affect other teams in their hiring process, but what would be his gain?

There is nothing to gain by doing that. I can't think of one reason why. It's a waste of a billionaire's time, and they view time as money.

He's not interested in GW.

Bringing in Schwartz also indicates that Snyder's hesitancy on Williams may be largely personal. He knows that if he hires someone outside, Williams will leave so he brings in someone who he thinks can do what Williams did from a defensive standpoint to be the guy. If he didn't dislike Williams he could just promote him. Basically Schwarts background says they don't expect Williams to be here. If he were an Offensive guy, Williams might still leave (with Blache and Grey) and then you'd be adrift defensively.

I don't know, 70. I can't see Williams putting a $1MM clause in Williams contract if he has something personal. Too have him in mind at one moment and then turn around a million dollars and have a change of heart just doesn't seem right to me. Not to mention that Williams' defense finished eighth in the NFL.

Re: May the Schwartz be with you?

I think they are just trying to line up a few candidates while playing the PR game with our heads, like..........lets make them wait and get more and more intrigued about Greg for a week or so, then we will hit um with the goods...................."And your next coach for the Washington Redskins, Greg Williams"! – hopeful / wishful thinking I presume.

Then we will all be so excited about our team and continue to waste our hard earned dollars on more Redskins Merchandise and ticket increases..

I too think this is all smoke and mirrors. They'll annouce it in due time. Unofficially, I wouldn't be surprised if the players already know that it's Williams.

I hope you're right. They certainly are doing everything they can to promote uncertainty.

They are playing games with the media, they are making people like JLC speculate all kinds of different scenarios. They already know that GW is the man, for political correctness reasons they have to act the part and throw people for a loop. Just look at us fans.

If they are playing games, they are doing it with the wrong guy. Schwartz is not a "minority".

They still need to interview a minority coach, possibly Singletary (whom I like a lot) one interview at a time.

Re: May the Schwartz be with you?

I think the team's actions say they don't intend to hire GW at all. I think that's wishful thinking on our part. Consider:

1) Bringing in Schwartz for an interview may mean they intend to interview him to be the DC and work UNDER Gregg Williams. But this would mean that JLC's "league sources" are wrong in saying Schwartz has been identified as a head coach candidate. And wouldn't it be wierd for Schwartz to come here to interview for a lateral move? Jeff Fisher and the Titans don't have to grant permission to let him interview for lateral moves.

2) JLC indicated in his blog that "team and league sources" indicated that the Skins are interested in Cowher. It seems Cowher doesn't want to coach yet. But if the team was really interested, that points to the team not being totally thrilled with Williams. Neither Cowher nor Schwartz are minorities, so they're not here to satisfy the Rooney rule. The fact that their names surfaced first tells me they're likely towards the top of Danny's list.

3) Gibbs is telling the media that the coaching search is Dan's decision and he respects that. He'll be there to advise Dan. Dan is saying "we'll go through a process." There's not much process to go through if you already think GW is your guy. And what motive is there to hide your feeling that GW is your guy? There's nothing to gain by hiding that sentiment and playing coy. He's under contract here already, and if you want to promote him, you just promote him. The fact that we haven't seen GW promoted at this point tells me Snyder is AT LEAST thinking about other candidates. And given that Cowher and Schwartz are now connected to the vacancy, if you ended up hiring GW, doesn't that say you're settling on him? After all, you knew what you had in GW, but you looked around at Cowher and Schwartz thinking you could do better. That's got to tell you that you're not thrilled with GW in the first place.

4) I guess it's possible Dan is throwing up major smokescreens and trying to confuse the media and throw people off the scent. But that seems like a conspiracy theory. Wouldn't Dan's time be better spent by actually trying to find a coach.

It's not going to be GW folks. I'm not sure if Gibbs agrees with that, though. Publicly, he's supporting his coaches, but he's not saying GW should be the next guy. He's saying Dan should go through the process and make the decision. It seems Gibbs may not see GW as head coach material. And if Gibbs thinks that, then I'm cool with the decision. If Gibbs is involved with this process, I feel good about his ability to identify the intangible leadership qualities a good coach has to have. And if that eschews GW, then I trust that call. But if Snyder is making this decision on his own, then I'm uncomfortable.

Fortunately, I think Snyder's listening to Gibbs. I hope.
