Re: Where Do We LEAST Need To Improve?

I'll say CB

We have Springs, Smoot and Rogers even though he's coming off of an injury and they are pretty good.

Maybe if we could get 1 more guy in, preferably a young one because Springs is getting old, I think CB would be set.

DT. we have griff, montgomery and golston. OT we have samuels and jansen who is coming off a pretty bad injury for the 2nd season out of 3 thats why i disagree with the majority here

there was alot of trashing going on last season about how we didnt draft a DT and you know, you are right, we really do have a solid DT corps. Its a tie between that and OT. we are getting kind of old on the O line though. We need to start looking towards the future.

We really only need 1 OT, because of Stephon Heyer, and if Lorenzo Alexander can play T maybe we should see how he plays.

Re: Where Do We LEAST Need To Improve?

Well I said WR but I have reconsidered and think OT is right. Outside of a franchise tackle we'll probably not get anyone better than Jansen and certainly not any better than Samuels so a OT is going to be a depth/long term pick. Outside of injury I don't a OT playing for us this year whereas all of the other positions have a decent/good shot at starting straight away.

Re: Where Do We LEAST Need To Improve?

I think we're good at tackle and guard... I said guard in the poll, thinking of kendall and thomas, but beyond them depth may be an issue moreso at guard than at tackle, when I think about Jansen, Samuels, Wade, Fabini, and Heyer. we need a starting quality corner, as shawn is no "spring" chicken, and smoot and rogers are just solid twos. we need a dynamic wideout, as we've been suffering there for a couple of years. D line has been a soft spot on our D for a while. Griff was a monster his first year, but steadily declined and hasn't had much support. Carter has been great, but daniels is avg.

I was thinking, if Chris Wilson can bulk up a bit, and then he could become the starting DE, we could move Phillip Daniels to DT, like he was on 3rd downs, and he could provide a nice pass rush from there as he did throughout last year, well he provided a better pass rush from DT than he was DE.

Long shot, but I'd love to see Alex Buzbee emerge this year.

Re: Where Do We LEAST Need To Improve?

Samuels and Jansen are pretty good. In that sense, we don't need to improve our position at OT. Nonetheless, I think we really need to start adding quality youth to the O-line. Fielding 5 starting O-lineman over the age of 30 in 2008 is a recipe for serious problems in 2009 and beyond.

Moreover, I think we need to upgrade our depth along the O-line. As evidenced by our woes the past few seasons, depth along the O-line is essential.

Re: Where Do We LEAST Need To Improve?

Just got back from the Wiz game. Arrrgggghhhhhhh.
Anyway, since this thread didn't specify a time frame, for this season, I'll say we LEAST need to improve at tackle. If Jansen is healthy and Heyer is still around, and Samuels turns in another pro bowl year, clearly tackle is the strongest of the listed positions.

"So with that in mind, where can we afford to go with the status quo for another year?"

DT... we have a solid group of guys who are mostly pretty young and will be dominant.

So for 2008 I'll say DT and OT are a tie. Montgomery/Golston/Griffin will be the defensive equivalent of Jansen and Samuels with Heyer filling in. Sorry I missed your specifics. It slightly changes my answer, but not by much. OT and DT are neck and neck IMO. Or at least very close to it.
