Re: Rams Meet with Caldwell and Macklin
No, but I think he and the Rams may be close as well.

Re: Update: Rams Meet with Caldwell; Sign Macklin
David Macklin : USAToday.com - David Macklin Biography from USAToday.com
Mar. 20, 2008 - 5:09 p.m. ET Rams agreed to terms with CB David Macklin on a one-year contract. Macklin was once a decent corner in the Colts' Tampa 2. Players from that secondary system rarely play well elsewhere, and Macklin further confirms it. If the Rams think of him as more than a dime back, they could be in trouble. Source: St. Louis Post-Dispatch As you can see, Asante Samuel is a Tampa 2 corner. And He's not as good as everyone thinks he is... Asante would prob be behind Carlos if he came to us. He's not as good as carlos if you ask me, he does have better hands but that doesnt make him a better CB. |

Re: Update: Rams Meet with Caldwell; Sign Macklin
Heres how I see it- If we let Caldwell go, we are going to sign or trade for a WR in the FA, and draft deeper in the draft (say round 4-6). If we match/keep him, we draft a WR higher, like in the 2nd or third. Any thoughts? Just putting that idea out there... could be right or wrong.

Re: Update: Rams Meet with Caldwell; Sign Macklin
Caldwell is the best remaining WR on the market, so he's going to get some play from any team who still has a need.
Like us, for example.

Better than Darrell Jackson? A few years ago I know Jackson was better. I don't know if he's fallen off that much or he was cut by SF to save some cap space.

Re: Update: Rams Meet with Caldwell; Sign Macklin
Now that Macklin is gone I think that CB becomes a priority in the draft. Our nickel corner is spot is going to be weak (not counting Rogers to start) and is going to need to be addressed via draft.
I wouldn't be against using a first round pick since there will be great young corners still available to us at #21.

Caldwell to make his decision next week. JLC Blog
Posted at 6:32 PM ET, 03/21/2008 News and notes From Jason Reid: Because of roster bonuses in his new contract, Redskins punter Derrick Frost could earn as much as $850,000 next season, a league source said. Wide receiver Reche Caldwell, to whom the team also extended a new contract offer, is expeced to decide next week whether he will return to the Redskins. The team also is waiting to hear from offensive lineman Jason Fabini, who is weighing a contract offer as well.
