Re: Passing The Ball!

Honestly, I thought we passed more than we ran while the first string offense was in. I love to see us throw the ball and I think JZ (Jim Zorn) did a good job at splitting up the pass and run attack.

Re: Passing The Ball!

We will see this week against the Panthers, when the starters play for a half. That should give us an indication about both the players and JZ playcalling.

Re: Passing The Ball!

It looks to me like he's saving his real red zone stuff for the season. No one should be upset about the playcalling yet.

What did concern me is that Rocky Mcintosh was , like Lavar a few years back, running like he was in high heels. Are we going to have to limp along for half the season while he gets well?

Re: Passing The Ball!

When it comes to playcalling I think people need to understand the difference between regular season football and the preseason.

In the regular season your main goal is to win. You gameplan, and you call plays to put you in a position to score.

In the preseason your main goal is not to win the game, your goal is to evaluate your players in a game situation, and therefore the playcalling is going to be different than what you might do in the regular season. And the gameplanning is very little to practically none at all.

You are right. The only gameplanning is how to practice whats needed in the context of the game.

I just don't understand Jim's reasoning but I believe he knows what he is doing. This west coast offense is not easy to learn which is why we need all of the practice we can get in the preseason for our receivers to get accustomed to. What do you guys think?
I did not watch the Vikings game but they had 38 passes and 38 runs so it was not all passing like you stated. We have to use somewhat of a balance approach to keep the other team from knowing what we are doing. This gives us a better understanding of how players look because it more of what we will do in a real game time situation.

ESPN - Redskins Replay: Zorn critical of Campbell - NFC East

Apparently Zorn was skeptical of the way Campbell holds onto the ball as well. Seems like he's not trusting his stuff, sort of like how Eli was last year.

Re: Passing The Ball!

Does anyone know if Fred Davis is working with the first team? I thought that we'd see some two TE sets this preseason. Anyone have any news on this?

Re: Passing The Ball!

Nice to know I'm not the only one wondering why the f Devine is getting any time w/ the pigskin. WTF! We've got our three QBs in order and all three could use much more time building chemistry w/ the offense. If we see Devine get any playing time this weekend I'll be scratching my head bald.

As to the play-calling I don't see any there there. Zorn has every reason not to show his hand in the passing game. It's been said he spent a lot of time drawing up unique plays in Seattle - why would he let anyone see them in pre-season. I actually would like to see us run more this weekend - bout even instead of lopsided toward the passing game like Matty said we did against NY. For one thing, if Betts is healthy he should get a ton of carries to keep building the rhythm that makes him so lethal if he's needed down the road. Second, pounding the f'n ball down the defenses throats builds a certain attitude. We had it during the 2nd half of '06 and we could use it again - beat the shit out of defenses w/ an aggressive rushing attack.
