Gibbs system can work. But, lately it hasn't seemed like a Gibbs-run system. His system was a mix of dink and dunk passes, a good running game, AND some deep passes (from his days in SD).

I've seen two of those three components. I'm just waiting to see our offense begin to pose a credible deep threat.

Gibbs has gotten in trouble for keeping Brunell in. Whereas a lot of people stuck by Brunell until the last moment, I think we all agree that Gibbs made a mistake in keeping Brunell in as long as he did.

Also, Gibbs does deserve a lot of flak. As I said earlier, if we were 7-3 does anyone honestly believe that Gibbs wouldn't be getting a disproportionate amount of the credit? He's getting a disproportionate amount of the criticism right now, but he almost deserves it considering we're 3-7.

Finally, doesn't Gibbs deserve some of the blame for the players' mistakes? He's the coach; it's his job to ensure that the right people are playing and playing well. It's not all on him if a player screws up, but as the head coach he deserves some of the blame. Doesn't he?

I think that you are over anxious and should realize

that one person over the course of one season can not right the ship. Patience is a virtue, we all know that this season is a rebuilding year at heart especially since we once again were throwing out the old system and importing in once again another new system. PLEASE PLEASE don't try to frustrate a subject that doesn't need any extra frustration. Also realize that our team (though I realize others as well) have been desimated with injuries. Don't coaches still get time to figure out anything anymore especially since we know that this is the first competent coaching staff in 12 years. It is sad to think that after the effort (although much of it in a losing fashion unfortunately) and camradie generated on this team could go to waste because we don't put any stock in the group of people that are the most knowledgable in their field.

I was wrong before to question Gibbs decision (on choosing to play Brunell) and I would just like to say that a positive and not negative attitude enables people to achieve their ultimate goals in life, not negativity which in turn breeds more negativity and brings about failure.

Those that choose to endorse this sort of negativity are not helping the team that we all choose to CELEBRATE!!!!! So I would like to offer a sense of constructive and purposeful critism on the contrary to these negative attacks on those chosen to lead the team that we all support.

Let's just stop discussing the team if we can't have honest and respectful disagreements. Or maybe we could just get the Iraqi Information Minister to come over and give us a pep talk....

There is nothing wrong with this team. This team will chase the infidel Steelers out of their homes and burn the pits of their stomachs in a blaze. We are not 3-7, that is a lie perpetrated by the evil, infidels. Those game tapes were fabrications, the Glorious Redskins triumphed over the Philadelphia Eagles 999-0. Do not believe the lies of the infidels!

matty, in the other post i said we should run more because
A) brunell couldn't even hit the 4 yard passes, and
B) portis was consistantly going 5+ yards (4.8ypc) on one of the NFL's worst run defenses (the tigers have decent pass D compared to brunell's talents...)

philly obviously killed our run early, but i didn't see much of the zone blocking that had been working well... i saw gut runs straight into iggles...

this game ramsey was hitting nearly everything (lots of drops though ), but i can't honestly believe he was immediately throwing checkdowns, he was told to throw that crap over and over and over... )

I think our problems (in order) are playcalling, penalties, and referees... ramsey used shotgun formations at tulane, he used them last year, and he's done well with them... i was encouraged today because he was releasing quickly, wasn't staring down his targets as much, and was hitting his throws... I only saw one bad throw (into double/triple coverage in the end zone, which mccants almost came up with anyways)... I said in another thread, maybe an OC more current with the game, at least as a consultant... maybe trying shotgun again (gibbs has looked into it, when asked he said that there are X teams (3??) that don't use shotgun right now, meaning there's been some consideration), and maybe doing half field reads like they do for plummer... (maybe zone throws like spurrier used, heh)...

Execution is a much bigger problem right now then play calling. You can't sustain drives when you have a false start, holding and dropped passes on every drive. That possesion where they had 1st and goal from the 10 and started moving backwards says everything about the way these players have executed this year. And i don't agree that they got spanked as Ramseyfan put it. They had every opportunity to win that game into the 4th quarter. The Eagles added late scores after the outcome was decided that made the game look more lopsided than it really was. I wish they would throw deep more than they are, but I refuse to let these players off the hook for not even being able to line up and not move for fu*ks sake!

If 28-6 isn't a spanking remind me not to be around when we do get spanked.

Your just looking at the final score. A spanking is a game that you are out of from start to finish. They had chances to win. They were at the 10 yard line down one score in the 4th quarter. I just don't think they were spanked.
