To my knowledge, theres only one GM opening in the NFL right now and thats in Cleaveland and theyve already got their candidate lined up. If his only option at this point is to take an assistant position, then it would stand to reason he would be interested in working for the team his father used to coach. This job is also attractive because its been rumored that this could be Cerratos last year being involved in football operations, so there is the potential for quick career advancement.

Good points. I could see this happening. I think Vinny is gradually being phased out rather than immediately pushed due to his friendship with Danny. Scott Campbell's increased role last offseason, the rumor that this is Cerrato's last year in FB ops, and now this...

He was the GM in Tampa since 2004, that's it for his GM experience.

Allen worked with Gruden in Oakland and joined him in Tampa Bay in 2004. During his nine seasons with the Raiders, Allen, who has a strong background in salary cap management and contract negotiations, was named the league's executive of the year in 2002. Allen was actually a senior administrator with Oakland in 2002 when the Gruden-led Bucs defeated the Raiders in Super Bowl XXXVII.

thanks for the info. Not much experience as the gm, but long enough to guide a team. I wonder what the circumstances really were in his firing & how much Gruden had to do w/it.

Another thought - If Allen came here in any capacity, it increases the likelyhood that John Gruden could land here - perhaps as the OC.

I'm not a huge Gruden fan, but he's certainly an upgrade over Sherman Smith. If theres one thing this offense needs, its fire. Grudens the type of guy who could definitely get guys fired up.

I don't see Gruden taking an OC post. He could sit out this year and come back as HC next year for someone.

Gruden is also good with QBs, but in that case I'd worry about the "too many cooks in the kitchen" cliche as far as Jason Campbell is concerned. Zorn has already started molding him.
